Kaori Matsumoto
is a retired Japanese judoka. Career Kaori Matsumoto started judo at the age of 6. Iwai Judo Juku, the school she attended, also worked on wrestling once a week. Therefore, she brought a stance of leaning forward, similar to that of wrestling, to judo. As an elementary school student, she won medals at national wrestling competitions. In judo, she won her first national tournament when she was in her senior year of junior high school. Her favorite techniques are Kosoto gari, Sode tsurikomi goshi and Newaza. She broke her right shoulder during high school, her nasal bone and right elbow during college, and her right hand during the 2009 world championship due to an unbalanced diet and finished fifth. After those events, she began to control her eating habits and learned the importance of food education. Asian Judo Championships
Asian Judo Championships is the Judo Asian Championship organized by the Judo Union of Asia. The men's tournament began in 1966 and was held approximately every four years, until 1991, when it became an annual event (except in the years when the Asian Games have been held.) The women's tournament was first staged in 1981, and it has been held with the men's tournament every year, except in 1984/5. Judo Grand Slam
The Judo Grand Slam tournaments are international judo tournaments held by the International Judo Federation as part of the IJF World Tour. After the Olympic Games, World Championships and World Masters, the Grand Slam tournaments are the highest-ranking worldwide judo tournaments, i.e. the tournaments in which the judoka can acquire the most ranking points. While some sources states that the first Grand Slam tournament was held in Tokyo in December 2008, the IJF titled it as "Kano Cup", not "Grand Slam". In 2009 additional tournaments were also held in Paris, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro. In 2013, Baku replaced Rio de Janeiro. Until 2013 there were four Grand Slam tournaments every year.
