Kanza Javed (Urdu: کنزا جاويد) is a Pakistani author and poet, best known for her novel, ''Ashes, Wine and Dust'' and other short stories. Early life and education Kanza Javed was born in Lahore, Pakistan. She attended Kinnaird College for Women. She received an MFA in Fiction from West Virginia University, where she won the late Rebecca Mason Perry Award. She was a short-term fellow at University of Massachusetts and a research scholar at Arizona State University; both grants were funded by the . Career Javed published her debut book, ''Ashes, Wine and Dust'', in 2015. The novel was shortlisted for the Tibor Jones South Asia Prize. Javed started writing the book when she was 17, and was the first Pakistani and, as of 2020, the youngest writer to be nominated for the award. Daniel Kanza
Daniel Kanza Kinsona (1909–1990) was a Congolese politician and a leading member of the ''Alliance des Bakongo''. He served as Premier Burgomaster of the capital of the Congo, Léopoldville, from 1960 until 1962. He later served in the National Assembly. Biography Daniel Kanza was born in 1909 in the Manianga area of the Luozi Territory. He received a Protestant Christian education before enlisting in the Force Publique, being stationed all over the Congo. He reached the rank of sergeant. After his service he became a Protestant deacon. Between 1929 and 1940 Kanza had seven children with Élisabeth Mansangaza, including future sociologist and politician Sophie Kanza and future politician and diplomat Thomas Kanza. He worked as a functionary in the colonial administration. In 1957 he became vice president of the ''Alliance des Bakongo'' (ABAKO) party. Lokua Kanza (born April 1958) is a singer-songwriter from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is known for his soulful, folksy sound. Biography Lokua Kanza was born Pascal Lokua Kanza in Bukavu in the province of Sud-Kivu, in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the eldest of eight children, with a Mongo father and a Tutsi mother from Rwanda. In 1964, the family went to live in Kinshasa in a middle class area, until the day when Pascal's father, a ship's captain, died. His mother then moved to a much poorer area of the city, and Pascal had to work to feed the family. As well as singing in churches. Lokua Kanza sings in French, Swahili, Lingala, Portuguese, and English. He was a coach in ''The Voice Afrique Francophone'' in 2016 and 2017. Sophie Kanza
Sophie Lihau-Kanza or Zala Lusibu N'Kanza (8 February 1940 – 2 April 1999) was a Congolese politician and sociologist. She was the first woman of her country to receive a secondary education, the first to graduate from a university, and the first to hold a government office in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, serving as Minister of Social Affairs from 31 October 1966 to 6 December 1970. In her later life she held positions within the United Nations. Thomas Kanza
Thomas Rudolphe Kanza or Nsenga Kanza (10 October 1933 – 25 October 2004) was a Congolese diplomat. He was one of the first Congolese nationals to graduate from a university. From 1960 to 1962 he served as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville), Republic of the Congo)'s first ambassador to the United Nations and from 1962 to 1964 was a delegate to the United Kingdom. His opposition to the governments of Moïse Tshombe and Joseph-Désiré Mobutu led him to first rebel and ultimately flee the Congo. He returned in 1983 and resumed politics. Dirty Kanza
Unbound Gravel, formerly known as the Dirty Kanza, is an event comprising gravel racing covering various distances held annually during the late spring in the Flint Hills region of the Great Plains around Emporia, Kansas, United States. The race's organizers refer to the mile race as the "World's Premiere Gravel Grinder", and ranked as one of the top gravel bike races. Winners are awarded a belt buckle. Course Starting and ending in Emporia, the routes runs along rural roads in the Flint Hills of east-central Kansas. In some years the temperature on the route has exceeded , while other years have seen rain or hail. It is not uncommon for rain to turn some dirt roads into "mud roads". There are checkpoints spaced about 50 miles apart for longer races, and riders must carry water and food, as well as fix their own tires and bikes.
