Kansas City Comets (1979–1991)
The Kansas City Comets were a professional indoor soccer team based for most of its existence in Kansas City, Missouri. They played in the original Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL; later the Major Soccer League) from 1979–1991, when they folded. They played their home games in Kemper Arena. The team originated as the Detroit Lightning, which joined the MISL as an expansion team in the 1979–1980 season. After a year in Detroit the team relocated to San Francisco, California, becoming the San Francisco Fog. They moved to Kansas City in 1981, where they remained for ten years. In Kansas City the team went to the league playoffs seven times, advancing to the division finals three times. Kia Zolgharnain
Kia Zolgharnain (born November 10, 1965) is an Iranian-American soccer coach and former player who is the current head coach and technical director of Akron City FC. As a player, Zolgharnain was a forward who led the American Indoor Soccer Association in scoring during the 1986–1987 season. He coaches youth soccer in Cleveland. Jan Goossens (born December 18, 1958) is a former Dutch soccer player and coach. He played for clubs from the Netherlands and Canada, but spend most of his career in the United States of America. Jan Goossens played 612 official matches and scored a total of 474 goals during his career. Victor Petroni
Victor Petroni is a retired Canadian soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. Player In 1980, Petroni signed with the Buffalo Stallions of the Major Indoor Soccer League. In the summer of 1980 he played in the National Soccer League with the Buffalo Blazers. In 1981, he moved to the Kansas City Comets. He played two seasons with Kansas City before joining the Phoenix Pride. The Pride folded at the end of the season and Petroni had trials with several MISL teams before signing with the Kalamazoo Kangaroos of the American Indoor Soccer Association. Greg Makowski
Gregory Makowski is a retired U.S. soccer defender. He was a three-time first team collegiate All American and was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic soccer team which was prevented from competing in the Moscow Olympics due to President Carter's boycott of the games. He also earned fourteen caps with the U.S. national team. Between 1978 and 1988, he played with multiple teams in the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Billy Gazonas
Billy Gazonas is a former U.S. soccer midfielder who won the 1977 Hermann Trophy as the top collegiate soccer player of the year. He played four seasons in the North American Soccer League and several in Major Indoor Soccer League. Player Youth Gazonas played soccer on the boys' team at St. Anthony High School in Trenton, New Jersey, and graduated from the school in 1973. In 1999, he was named by ''The Star-Ledger'' as one of the top ten New Jersey high school soccer players of the 1970s. He entered Hartwick College that fall where he played on the men's soccer team. Enzo Di Pede (born January 3, 1957) is a retired Italian-born goalkeeper who played in the North American Soccer League and the original Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Career In 1976, he played in the National Soccer League with Toronto Italia for three seasons. Di Pede was a member of the MISL Champion New York Arrows as a backup goalkeeper in 1979–1980.
