Kanine Records
Kanine Records is an independent record label based in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York started at the end of 2002 by Lio and Kay Kanine. Their first release, ''NY: The Next Wave'', was a 20 track compilation featuring mostly unsigned and emerging acts from the area. From there, they started to sign local bands and release CD EPs, 12-inch vinyl and eventually full-length records. The label remains independent and continues to grow due to the ongoing success of artists like Grizzly Bear, Chairlift, and Surfer Blood. Recent and upcoming releases include albums by The Natvral (Kip Berman from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart), Pearl Charles, Hoorsees, Lucid Express, and VEPS. Secretly Distribution
Secretly Group is a family of American independent record labels based in Bloomington, Indiana. The group is made up of Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, and Dead Oceans. Secretly Canadian, the first of the labels, was formed in 1996 by brothers Chris and Ben Swanson, Eric Weddle, and Jonathan Cargill. Their first release was a re-issue of an album by June Panic. Weddle later left to form label Family Vineyard; the remaining trio were joined by Darius Van Arman, as well as his label Jagjaguwar, in 1999. The Blow
The Blow is an American electro pop band, comprising Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne. Maricich and Dyne write, compose, produce and perform all the music. It was formed as a solo project by Maricich in 2002, and she was joined by Jona Bechtolt, from Yacht, from 2004 to 2007. Melissa Dyne became part of the project in 2007. The live shows often incorporate monologues and other performance elements. Melissa Dyne began collaborating with Maricich on the live Blow shows starting in 2007, gradually incorporating her background in installation, sound, and conceptual art into the live show. Dyne performs live from a location off stage. Maricich and Dyne composed and produced an eponymous album for The Blow, released in 2013. Oxford Collapse
Oxford Collapse were an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. The band’s lineup included Michael Pace on vocals and guitars, Dan Fetherston on drums, and Adam Rizer on bass and vocals. History Oxford Collapse first released a limited press self-titled EP for the HCR label in 2002. Shortly after they signed to Kanine Records, a label based in New York City/Brooklyn, where they released their first full-length album '' Some Wilderness'' in April 2004. This was followed by a remix of a track from the album titled " Melting the Ice Queen" in July of that year. In October, the band released a 7-inch vinyl EP, entitled ''Songs For The Singers Of Panthers'', on Discoloration Records before releasing their final effort from Kanine Records, ''A Good Ground''. Northern State is an American female hip-hop/indie rock group from New York, United States. Mixel Pixel
Mixel Pixel was a music/video project based in Brooklyn, New York, active from 1995-2009. Formed in December 1995 in rural Minnesota, Mixel Pixel soon released their first home recorded 4 track cassettes, Lez Puff, Pastelogram, and Basement Mom. Later, they relocated to Delaware where they spent the next 4 years recording their first LP called Mappyland. Drink Up Buttercup
Drink Up Buttercup was a band from Philadelphia, PA. Band members were James Harvey (vocals), Mike Cammarata (drums), Farzad Houshiarnejad (organs, bass, guitar, percussion) and Ben Money (bass, organs, percussion). The band came together in Bucks County, PA in late 2007, making their debut performance at a cigar parlor. Drink Up Buttercup released their first 7" single, "Mr. Pie Eyes" on the UK label Make Mine Music. Following this were sets at CMJ Music Marathon and South by Southwest. Dinowalrus is an American band from Brooklyn, New York, formed by Titus Andronicus guitarist Peter Feigenbaum. The band have released four albums and toured internationally. Beverly (band)
Beverly is an American, Brooklyn-based band that formed in 2013. They began recording their debut LP, ''Careers'', in 2013 and finished in early 2014. It was released on July 1, 2014 on Williamsburg-based Kanine Records. Beverly's original lineup consisted of Frankie Rose and Drew Citron, both from the Brooklyn indie music scene. Rose is a former member of Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls, and Dum Dum Girls, while Citron is a former member of Avan Lava.
