Kangal is a town and a district of Sivas Province in Turkey. The current mayor is Ahmet Kürşad Apaydın from the Great Unity Party (BBP). As Kaymakam was appointed Erinç Demir. Sivas Province
Sivas Province ( tr, ) is a province of Turkey. It is largely located at the eastern part of the Central Anatolia region of Turkey; it is the second largest province in Turkey by territory. Its adjacent provinces are Yozgat to the west, Kayseri to the southwest, Kahramanmaraş to the south, Malatya to the southeast, Erzincan to the east, Giresun to the northeast, and Ordu to the north. Kurdish Alevism
Kurdish Alevism () refers to the unique rituals, sacred place practices, mythological discourses and socio-religious organizations among Kurds who adhere to Alevism. Moreover, Kurdish Alevis consider their hereditary sacred lineages as semi-deific figures, is more rooted in nature veneration, and put more emphasis on Pir Sultan Abdal as their religious symbol, unlike Turkish Alevis who emphasize on Haji Bektash Veli. Kurdish Alevis argue that their beliefs are related to Ahl-e Haqq and Yazidism. The Kurdish Alevi population has experienced religious and ethnic discrimination, oppression and forced assimilation which have significantly impacted their identity. Hüseyin Alp
Hüseyin Alp (May 12, 1935 – January 8, 1983) was a Turkish professional basketball player and supporting role movie actor. With his height of 2.15 m (7'1") tall, he was one of the tallest Turkish basketball players. Early life Alp was born 1935, in Kangal, Sivas Province. Club career Alp started playing basketball at the age of 27. From 1962 to 1974, he played at the center position, for the İTÜ and Altınordu teams. During his club career, he won six Turkish Super League championships (1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973). He was the Turkish Super League's Top Scorer, in 1967 and 1974. Kangal Shepherd Dog
The Kangal Shepherd Dog (Turkish: ''Kangal Çoban Köpeği'') is a historic Turkish breed of large livestock guardian dog native to eastern Turkey. The breed name derives from that of the town and district of Kangal in Sivas Province, the easternmost province of the Central Anatolia Region. The coat colour varies from pale fawn to wolf grey, always with a black mask. It is a traditional flock guardian dog, kept with flocks of sheep to fend off predators of all sizes, including wolves, bears and jackals. It is thought to have the most powerful bite of all domestic dogs. Some have been exported to African countries such as Namibia and Kenya where they successfully protect local herds from lions, cheetahs and similar indigenous big cats. Deliktaş Tunnel
The Deliktaş Tunnel ( tr, Deliktaş Tüneli), a.k.a. Kangal-Deliktaş Tunnel, is a railway tunnel near Deliktaş village between Ulaş and Kangal districts of Sivas Province in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It was built to shorten and to ease the ramp on the railway line connecting Sivas with Malatya and Erzincan. The construction began on November 15, 1973, however its progression was quite slow until 2003 when the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) took over the project. Although the works at the tunnel were completed in 2006, works for the infrastructure on the railway line around the tunnel began only in 2009. At the end of 2011, all construction works were finished. Following the installation of signalization facilities, and completing the test runs with freight trains, the tunnel was put into service in late 2012.
