The Kander is a river in Switzerland. It is long and has a watershed of . Originally a tributary of the Aare, with a confluence downstream of the city of Thun, since 1714 it flows into Lake Thun upstream of the city. The drainage water from the Kander Neve (glacier) in the middle of the Bernese Alps at an altitude of flows through the Gasteretal westward. south of Kandersteg it turns to north into the larger Kandertal. After it converges in Frutigen with the Engstlige from the left, its second major tributary. The Engstligental with Adelboden at its south end, runs more or less parallel to the Kandertal before they converge into the Frutigtal. Continuing northwards, the Frutigtal makes a long bend to the west in order to get around the Niesen. Jason David Kander (born May 4, 1981) is an American attorney, author, veteran, and politician. A Democrat, he served as the 39th secretary of state of Missouri, from 2013 to 2017. He had previously served as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2009 to 2013. Before entering politics, he was an intelligence officer in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of captain. He was the Democratic nominee for the United States Senate for Missouri in 2016, narrowly losing the election to Republican incumbent Roy Blunt. After the Senate election, Kander founded an organization called Let America Vote, a campaign dedicated to ending voter suppression. John Kander
John Harold Kander (born March 18, 1927) is an American composer, known largely for his work in the musical theater. As part of the songwriting team Kander and Ebb (with lyricist Fred Ebb), Kander wrote the scores for 15 musicals, including ''Cabaret'' (1966) and ''Chicago'' (1975), both of which were later adapted into acclaimed films. He and Ebb also wrote the standard " New York, New York" (also known as "Theme from ''New York, New York''"). Kander and Ebb were a highly successful American songwriting team consisting of composer John Kander (born March 18, 1927) and lyricist Fred Ebb (April 8, 1928 – September 11, 2004). Known primarily for their stage musicals, which include ''Cabaret'' and ''Chicago'', Kander and Ebb also scored several movies, including Martin Scorsese's ''New York, New York''. Elizabeth Black Kander (1858–1940) was an American progressive reformer, philanthropist and author, founder of a settlement house in Milwaukee, where she originated her best-known work, '' The Settlement Cookbook''. Early life Elizabeth "Lizzie" Black was born on May 28, 1858, to John and Mary (Perles) Black, who were from Jewish families from England and Bavaria. The Black family had previously lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin before their 1844 move to the South Side of Milwaukee. John Black opened a dry goods store to support the family. At this time, the Blacks were one of over two hundred German Jewish families who lived as merchants in the Milwaukee area. Nadav Kander HonFRPS (born 1 December 1961) is a London-based photographer, artist and director, known for his portraiture and landscapes. Kander has produced a number of books and had his work exhibited widely. He received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in 2015, and won the Prix Pictet award. Simon Kander
Simon Kander (December 21, 1848 – March 13, 1931) was an American businessman and politician. He served one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Kander went to Dickinson Seminary in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and then moved to Titusville, Pennsylvania. In 1868, Kander moved with his parents to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kander was in the real estate business and was also a traveling salesman for a clothing firm.
