''Kanavan'' ( ) is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by P. Neelakantan, starring M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa, with C. R. Vijayakumari, S. A. Ashokan, Cho among others. It was released on 15 August 1968. Plot Vellaiya is falsely accused for murdering cashier Ganapathy. Meanwhile. Rani a wealthy daughter of Chidambara Pillai, who hates marriages wand wants to be freed from humiliated Manogar, who comes to see Rani after Chidambara Pillai invitation. Manogar gets angry and insults Chidambara Pillai on Rani's behaviour. Chidambara Pillai, gets heart-attack and writes a will based on Manager Mani's advise and dies. To inherit, Rani has to marry in urgency. She chooses a person sentenced to death, the good Vellaiya. Vellaiya though reluctant initially, he marries Rani. Srinivasa Iyer Ramaswamy, better known as Cho Ramaswamy (5 October 1934 – 7 December 2016), was an Indian actor, comedian, character actor, editor, political satirist, playwright, film director and lawyer from Tamil Nadu. Tiruchirapalli Srinivasan Rangarajan, professionally credited by his pseudonym Vaali (born 29 October 1931 – 18 July 2013) was an Indian poet who is the highest songs wrote lyricist in cinema and whose works were in Tamil, had a five-decade long association with the Tamil film industry, wrote over 15,000 songs. Gopishantha (26 May 1937 – 10 October 2015), better known by her stage name Manorama, also called Aachi, was an Indian actress, playback singer and comedian who had appeared in more than 1000 films and 5000 stage performances and several television series predomninantely in the Tamil language until 2015.
