Kamouraska Regional County Municipality, Quebec
Kamouraska is a regional county municipality in eastern Quebec, Canada. The regional county municipality seat is Saint-Pascal, but the largest town is La Pocatière. The area is an important research, development and education centre for agriculture. Factories in the region produce metal products and public transportation equipment. One of the people instrumental in settling and developing this area was Pascal Taché, an early seigneur. The name "Kamouraska" comes from an Algonquin word meaning "where rushes grow at the water's edge". 'Kamouraska' comes from the Abenaki, ''ska moraskua'', which means "birch bark here", "there is some white birch bark". This sort of birch bark is used for making canoes and wigwams. Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (''french: municipalité régionale de comté, MRC'') is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Some local municipalities are outside any regional county municipality (''hors MRC''). This includes some municipalities within urban agglomerations and also some aboriginal lands, such as Indian reserves that are enclaves within the territory of an RCM but not juridically part of it. Saint-Denis-De La Bouteillerie is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in the Kamouraska Regional County Municipality. Prior to November 16, 2013, it was known simply as Saint-Denis and was a parish municipality. The name change was a revival of an old name used from 1845 to 1855. When the name was officially changed, it was also retroactively declared that the name should have been known as Saint-Denis de Kamouraska since 1855. It contains the house of Jean-Charles Chapais, a National Historic Site of Canada. Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, in the Kamouraska Regional County Municipality. Before July 5, 1997, it was known simply as Saint-Alexandre. History The parish of Saint-Alexandre was founded in the first half of the 19th century. It was canonically erected in 1851. The post office was first opened in 1854 under the name "''Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska''". The parish municipality of Saint-Alexandre was then created in 1855.
