Kamla Ki Maut
''Kamla Ki Maut '' (Death of Kamla) is a 1989 Hindi drama film directed by Basu Chatterjee. The film set in Mumbai, deals with issue of love, pre-marital sex and relationships in modern India. It stars Pankaj Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, Roopa Ganguly, Irrfan, Mrinal Kulkarni, Asha Lata, Ashutosh Gowariker. At the 36th Filmfare Awards the film won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for Basu Chatterjee. Basu Chatterjee
Basu Chatterjee ( bn, বাসু চ্যাটার্জ্জী; 10 January 1927 – 4 June 2020) was an Indian film director and screenwriter. Through the 1970s and 1980s, Chatterjee became associated with what came to be known as middle cinema or middle-of-the-road cinema filmmakers, such as Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Bhattacharya, whom he assisted on ''Teesri Kasam'' (1966). The 36th Filmfare Awards were held in 1991. '' Dil'' and '' Ghayal'' led the ceremony with eight nominations each, followed by ''Aashiqui'' with seven nominations and '' Agneepath'' and ''Pratibandh'' with five nominations each. Chawl
A chawl is a type of residential building found in western India, similar to a tenement. Typically low quality housing, chawls are generally associated with poverty. The first chawls were constructed in the early 1700s, as housing for industrial workers. History Chawls are rooted in the history of Bombay's (now Mumbai) colonial past. Workers migrated to Bombay from far and wide, as Bombay was the center of trade for the East India Company. However, due to the land being unequally divided, British merchants and officials lived in sprawling bungalows, leaving little space for the working class. To accommodate this workforce, Chawls sprung up. These were tiny one room apartments shared by up to five people. Being highly congested, unsanitary, and unsafe, these were also more expensive than comparable accommodation in other Indian cities.
