Kamikaze Hearts (film)
''Kamikaze Hearts'' (alternately titled ''Fact or Fiction'') is a 1986 American quasi-documentary film directed by Juliet Bashore and written by Bashore, Tigr Mennett, and John Knoop. It stars Sharon Mitchell, Tigr Mennett, Jon Martin, Sparky Vasque, Jerry Abrahms, and Robert McKenna. The soundtrack was composed by Georges Bizet, Walt Fowler, and Paul M. Young. The film, while partly fictional, is based on the real life relationship between Mitchell and her girlfriend Tige Mennett, who were both pornographic actresses. In ''Kamikaze Hearts'', a camera crew follows Mitchell, nicknamed "Mitch," as she stars in a porn parody of the opera '' Carmen'' that Mennett is directing. Facets Multi-Media released the film in November 1986. It received a 2K restoration by the UCLA Film & Television Archive and was re-released by Kino Lorber, premiering on May 13, 2022; this re-release grossed a total of $6,669. Juliet Bashore
Juliet Bashore (born 31 December 1956) is an American filmmaker. She is best known for her award-winning feature film '' Kamikaze Hearts'' (1986), a pseudo-documentary set in the Golden Age of Porn in San Francisco. Life Bashore studied English literature and film at the University of California, Santa Cruz and received a Master's degree in directing at the American Film Institute’s Center for Advanced Film and Television Studies. She has been nominated for a Guggenheim Fellowship. After her studies, Bashore worked as an intern on George Csicsery’s film ''Television, The Enchanted Mirror'' (1981). She also worked as a producer and associate producer in San Francisco at Target Video, Videowest and video collective Optic Nerve. Her film ''Kamikaze Hearts'' was shot in 1983 and released in 1986.
