Kamaria Muntu
Kamaria S. Muntu (born Tracey De Sandra Martin on November 1) is a Black Feminist poet, writer and arts activist. She is also Editor and Founder of Femficatio Literary Magazine. Childhood and personal life She was born in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of an elementary school teacher, who later became a Master Teacher, and a bus driver who was among the first Black men to integrate the Baltimore Transit Company. She is the granddaughter of Elizabeth Mae Kennedy. When she was a month old, her parents divorced and she and her mother lived with her grandparents. Her mother later remarried and she had a turbulent upbringing. While attending Milford Mill Senior High school now Milford Mill Academy in Baltimore she played Mrs. Chumley in a production of ''Harvey (play), Harvey'', the wife to Dr. Chumley played by the now celebrity Ira Glass, of "This American Life". Black Feminist
Black feminism is a philosophy that centers on the idea that "Black women are inherently valuable, that lack women'sliberation is a necessity not as an adjunct to somebody else's but because our need as human persons for autonomy." Race, gender, and class discrimination are all aspects of the same system of hierarchy, which bell hooks calls the "imperialist white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy." Due to their inter-dependency, they combine to create something more than experiencing racism and sexism independently. Kofi Annan
Kofi Atta Annan (; 8 April 193818 August 2018) was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an international organisation founded by Nelson Mandela. Annan studied economics at Macalester College, international relations at the Graduate Institute Geneva, and management at MIT. Ajamu Sibeko Baraka ( ; born October 25, 1953) is an American political activist. In 2016, he was the Green Party nominee for Vice President of the United States on the ballot in 45 states and received 1,457,216 votes (1.07% of the popular vote). Baraka currently serves as the national organizer and spokesperson for the Black Alliance for Peace. Early life Baraka was born in 1953 and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge, he moved to the southern United States, where he became involved in anti-segregation activism.
