Kamaitachi Opening
In shogi, the Kamaitachi opening (かまいたち戦法 ''kamaitachi senpou'') or Eishun opening (英春流 ''eishun-ryuu'') is an uncommon flexible opening. It was invented by amateur shogi player Eishun Suzuki (鈴木英春). The opening can be played against Ranging Rook or Static Rook. Kamaitachi was named after kamaitachi (鎌鼬), which is the weasel-like mythological creature associated with whirlwinds that cut humans with sickle-like painless, bloodless wounds without their knowledge. The Kamaitachi opening is characterized by the basic formation P-56 and S-57. Typically, the first move when playing Sente (Black) is P-76, while it's S-62 when playing Gote (White). As Suzuki was training in a Zen temple he asked about a book that he should read to understand Zen, and he was given a book with the title "Only This Book." Ranging Rook or Swinging Rook (振り飛車 ''furibisha'') openings in shogi position the rook to the center or left of the player's board to support an attack there. Ranging Rook strategies used in Ranging Rook vs Static Rook are among the oldest of shogi strategies attested in the historical documents that first describe the rules of shogi around 1600. Static Rook (居飛車 ''ibisha'') openings in shogi typically have the player's rook at its start position, which is the second file (on the 28 square) for Black and the eighth file (on the 82 square) for White. Explanation Static Rook is a set of openings in which the rook remains on its starting square, which is the 28 square if played by Black and the 82 square if played by White. Kamaitachi
is a Japanese yōkai often told about in the Kōshin'etsu region and can also refer to the strange events that this creature causes. They appear riding on dust devils and they cut people using the nails on both their hands that are like sickles. One would receive a sharp, painless wound. In shogi, castles ( ja, 囲い, translit=kakoi) are strong defensive configurations of pieces that protect the king ( ja, 玉). In contrast to the special castling move in western chess, shogi castles are structures that require making multiple individual moves with more than one piece. The Bear-in-the-hole or Anaguma castle (穴熊 ''anaguma'', badger, lit. "hole-bear") is a castle used in shogi. (An anaguma is a Japanese badger.) It is commonly used in professional shogi.
