Kallang Theatre
Kallang Theatre is a 1,744-seat theatre in Kallang, Singapore. Located at 1A Stadium Walk, Singapore 397689 within the Singapore Sports Hub, beside Leisure Park Kallang and Stadium MRT station, Kallang Theatre is managed by Sport Singapore. Originally opened on 23 February 1970 as the "Kallang Cinema", it was the largest cinema in Singapore at the time. The venue was later transformed into a live performance theatre in the wake of the National Theatre closure. In March 1986, the National Theatre Trust relocated to Kallang Theatre. Aside from hosting cultural events, Kallang Theatre also became the venue of the annual National Day Rally. From 1986 to 2000, former Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong held their rallies at Kallang Theatre. Kallang is a planning area and residential town located in the Central Region of Singapore. Development of the town is centered around the Kallang River, the longest river in Singapore. Kallang Planning Area is bounded by Toa Payoh in the north, Geylang in the east, Marine Parade in the southeast, Marina East in the south, the Downtown Core in the southwest, Rochor, Newton in the west, and Novena in the northwest. The Singapore Sports Hub (Chinese: 新加坡体育城; Malay: Hab Sukan Singapura; Tamil: சிங்கப்பூர் விளையாட்டு மையம்) is a sports and recreation district in Kallang, Singapore. The Sports Hub is a 35-hectare public-private partnership that is anchored by the new National Stadium and existing Singapore Indoor Stadium, and also incorporates a new aquatics facility, indoor sports hall, water sports centre, public sports facilities, and retail. The Sports Hub opened to the public on 30 June 2014, and is currently connected to the Stadium and Kallang MRT stations. Leisure Park Kallang
Leisure Park Kallang (or Kallang Leisure Park) is an entertainment centre and shopping mall in Kallang, Singapore. It is served by Stadium MRT station and is within the vicinity of the affluent community of Tanjong Rhu. It is sited next to the Singapore Sports Hub, Kallang Theatre and Singapore Indoor Stadium. History Leisure Park Kallang was built in 1982 as the country's first purpose-built entertainment centre. At the time of completion, it featured a bowling alley, a three-screen cinema and an ice skating rink. Located next to the National Stadium, it served the crowds after major events there, and its popularity peaked in the 1990s, therefore had a minor renovation works in 1999 whereas the mall is still opened to shoppers, but the design seems to be terrible with the interior and shape of it. Stadium MRT Station
Stadium MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle Line (CCL). Located in the area of Kallang, Central Region, Singapore, the station serves the Singapore Sports Hub and its facilities including the National Stadium, Indoor Stadium, Kallang Theatre and Leisure Park Kallang. It is operated by SMRT Trains. Announced to be part of the Marina MRT line branch to either Kallang or Paya Lebar, construction of the station started in 2001. The National Theatre ( ms, Panggong Negara; ) was built on the slope of Fort Canning Park along River Valley Road in the Museum Planning Area of Singapore. The theatre was officially opened on 8 August 1963 to commemorate Singapore's self-governance and was the first and largest national theatre in Singapore back then.
