Mu. Kalanjiyam is an Indian film director who has made Tamil films. A winner of the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Story Writer, Kalanjiyam has also featured in the lead role in his films. Career Kalanjiyam's first film, ''Poomani'' (1996), featuring Murali and Devayani, won commercial and critical acclaim, and the director won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Story Writer for 1996. His next venture, the rural drama ''Kizhakkum Merkkum'', starring Napoleon with Devayani, also won positive reviews. A proposed film titled ''Sangeetha Thirunaal, '' produced by music composer Ilaiyaraaja, was planned, but did not materialize. He returned with another film, ''Poonthottam'' (1998), with the cast of his first film, but the film went unnoticed as a result of the bigger budget films released around the same time. Karungali (film)
''Karungali'' is a 2011 Tamil-language film written and directed by Kalanjiyam and produced by Vivekanandan. The film stars the director himself alongside Srinivas, Anjali, and Sunitha Verma in the lead roles, while Asmitha and Alex play supporting roles. The music was composed by Srikanth Deva, while editing was done by LVK Doss. The film released on 29 July 2011 and became a critical and commercial failure. ''Nilave Mugam Kaattu'' () is a 1999 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Kalanjiyam and starring Karthik, Ramki and Devayani. The film, produced by S. Rajaram, has a musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 30 April 1999 to negative reviews. The film is a remake of the Kannada film '' Anuraga Sangama'' (1995) which itself was inspired by Charlie Chaplin's '' City Lights''. Plot Murthy ( Karthik) and Prakash (Ramki) become best friends since Prakash's father ( Nizhalgal Ravi) killed Murthy's mother in a car accident. ''Kizhakkum Merkkum'' () is a 1998 Tamil-language drama film directed by Kalanjiyam. The film stars Napoleon, Nassar, Devayani and Geetha, with Manivannan, Thalaivasal Vijay, Vichithra, Theni Kunjarammal, Kalyanjiyam, and Chaplin Balu playing supporting roles.
