Kalani Das, also known simply as Kalani (birth name Michael Bruno), is an American classically trained percussionist, author, and educator. He has recorded percussion with numerous artists including Yanni and Suzanne Ciani, and has won several awards, including #1 Rock/Pop Percussionist through ''DRUM! ''In Celebration of Life'' is the second compilation album and seventh album overall by Greek keyboardist and composer Yanni, released on the Private Music label in 1991. Like its predecessor, ''Reflections of Passion'', it consisted mostly of songs taken from Yanni's four previous albums. Unlike ''Reflections of Passion'', it did not include any new material nor any songs from Yanni's debut album, ''Optimystique''. However, it did include one song ("Song for Antarctica") taken from a multi-artist benefit album, ''Polar Shift''. The album peaked at #3 on ''Billboards Top New Age Albums chart and at #60 on the Billboard 200 in the same year. The album was supported by the Revolution in Sound Tour. Bongo Drum
Bongos ( es, bongó) are an Afro-Cuban percussion instrument consisting of a pair of small open bottomed hand drums of different sizes. They are struck with both hands, most commonly in an eight-stroke pattern called ''martillo'' (hammer). The larger drum is called a hembra (Spanish for female) and the smaller drum is called the macho (Spanish for male). They are mainly employed in the rhythm section of son cubano and salsa ensembles, often alongside other drums such as the larger congas and the stick-struck timbales. This brought bongos into our cultural vocabulary, from Beatniks to Mambo to the current revival of Cuban folkloric music. Bongo drummers (''bongoseros'') emerged as the only drummers of son cubano ensembles in eastern Cuba toward the end of the 19th century. Conga
The conga, also known as tumbadora, is a tall, narrow, single-headed drum from Cuba. Congas are staved like barrels and classified into three types: quinto (lead drum, highest), tres dos or tres golpes (middle), and tumba or salidor (lowest). Congas were originally used in Afro-Cuban music genres such as conga (hence their name) and rumba, where each drummer would play a single drum. Following numerous innovations in conga drumming and construction during the mid-20th century, as well as its internationalization, it became increasingly common for drummers to play two or three drums. Congas have become a popular instrument in many forms of Latin music such as son (when played by conjuntos), descarga, Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa, songo, merengue and Latin rock. Roni Benisek, best known as Benise, is an American guitarist who describes his style as "Spanish guitar" or "nouveau flamenco." After growing up in Ravenna, Nebraska, Benise moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue rock stardom. After hearing flamenco music on the radio, he switched from electric guitar to nylon-stringed classical guitar. He began busking on the street and playing neighborhood theaters and flea markets.
