Kakani
Kakani is a Gaunpalika and former village development committee in Nuwakot District in Bagmati Province of central Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, the Kakani village development committee administered a population of 7816 living in 1343 individual households. As one of the most accessible settlements from Kathmandu over 2000 meters, this hill station hosts a British Gurkhas welfare bungalow and a number of hotels. The village is also home to a memorial park to the victims of Thai Airways International Flight 311. A notable local industry is strawberry farming. Nuwakot District
Nuwakot District ( ne, नुवाकोट जिल्ला, a part of Bagmati Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The district, with Bidur as its district headquarters, covers an area of and had a population of 288,478 in 2001 and 277,471 in 2011. It is a historically important district in Nepal. Prithvi Narayan Shah died in Devighat of Nuwakot. The district contains places of historical significance such as the town of Nuwakot, and the village of Devighat located at the confluence of the Tadi and Trishuli Rivers. Kakani is popular among Nepalese people as a touristic place and picnic spot. Nuwakot holds the different reminance from the unification movement pioneered by late king Prithvi Narayan Shah to the present situation. Thai Airways International Flight 311
Thai Airways International Flight 311 was a flight from Bangkok, Thailand's Don Mueang International Airport to Kathmandu, Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport. On Friday, 31 July 1992, an Airbus A310-304 on the route, registration crashed on approach to Kathmandu. At 07:00:26 UTC (12:45:26 NST; 14:00:26 ICT), the aircraft crashed into the side of a mountain north of Kathmandu at an altitude of and a ground speed of , killing all 99 passengers and 14 crew members on board. This was both the first hull loss and the first fatal accident involving the Airbus A310. Sisdol Landfill
Sisdol landfill is a location to dump solid waste from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kakani, and Banepa. It is the biggest dumping site of Nepal. 100 tons of solid waste is dumped at the site daily. The landfill is located at Kakani Rural Municipality (previously Okharpauwa Village Development Committee) of Nuwakot district. The landfill site has an area of 15 hectares. Two hectares of land is used for the actual filling while 12 ha are used as a buffer and the remaining 1 hectare is used for other facilities. The landfill site has two valleys, with a capacity of 166,085 and 108,910 cubic meters respectively. The waste from various cities is first collected in Teku transfer station. From the station, the waste is dispatched to Sisdol. Around 60 % of wastes in the Sisdol are organic but the waste remains mostly unsegregated.
