Sunil Gangopadhyay
Sunil Gangopadhyay or Sunil Ganguly (7 September 1934 – 23 October 2012) was an Indian poet, historian and novelist in the Bengali language based in the city of Kolkata. He is a former Sheriff of Calcutta. Gangopadhyay obtained his master's degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. In 1953 he and a few of his friends started a Bengali poetry magazine, '' Krittibas''. Later he wrote for many different publications. Ganguly created the Bengali fictional character '' Kakababu'' whose real name is Raja Roy Chowdhury and his passion is to solve mysteries. He wrote 36 novels in Kakababu series which became significant in Indian children's literature. He received ''Sahitya Akademi'' award in 1985 for his novel '' Those Days'' (''Sei Samay''). ''Mishawr Rawhoshyo'' is a 2013 Indian adventure thriller film directed by Srijit Mukherji, based on the fictional character Kakababu created by Sunil Gangopadhyay. It stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta, Swastika Mukherjee, Aryann Bhowmik, and many others. The plot revolves around a hieroglyphic trail that leads the protagonist to Egypt and underneath a pyramid. The film became one of the biggest hits of 2013 and gained a strong cult following from the audience and critics. The second film of this Kakababu series '' Yeti Obhijaan'' was released in 2017. ''Kakababu Here Gelen?'' ( lost kakababu) is a Bengali detective film of Kakababu series, released in 1995 under the banner of National Film Development Corporation. It is based on a detective novel of Sunil Gangopadhyay in the same name. The movie is a prequel to the 2001 Bengali movie ''Ek Tukro Chand'' directed by Pinaki Chaudhuri. Soumitra Chatterjee played the role of anti hero in this movie. Plot Being unable to maintain his maternal uncle's ancestral house, Biman and his wife Dipa sell their house to a person who decides to demolish it and build something new there. ''Sabuj Dwiper Raja'' is a 1979 Indian adventure thriller film directed by Tapan Sinha, based on the same name novel of Kakababu by Sunil Gangopadhyay.
