The Kaiviti Silktails are a semi-professional rugby league football club from Fiji and currently based in Sydney. They compete in the New South Wales Rugby League, NSWRL's Ron Massey Cup, and will advance to the New South Wales Cup, Knock-On Effect(KOE) NSW Cup in 2023. The Silktails will be a predominantly Under-23 side from 2022 onwards. History The New South Wales Rugby League, NSWRL had first endorsed a bid team from Fiji led by Petero Civoniceva early in 2014 to have a team compete in the 2016 Intrust Super Premiership NSW, 2016 NSW Cup competition. The bid received endorsement from the Fiji National Rugby League in 2018. Churchill Park is a multi-purpose stadium in Lautoka, Fiji. It is currently used mostly for football matches and hosts the home matches of Lautoka F.C. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). In round-robin tournaments, usually one competitor gets a bye in each round when there are an odd number of competitors, as it is impossible for all competitors to play in the same round. However, over the whole tournament, each plays the same number of games as well as sitting out for the same number of rounds. Rugby league is a popular team sport played in Fiji since 1992. History Joe Levula and Orisi Dawai were the first Fijians to play rugby league after they were recruited to play professionally for the Rochdale Hornets in 1961. Voate Driu and Laitia Ravouvou joined the club the next year, with numerous others following throughout the 1960s and 1970s. These players largely remained in Rochdale after their careers. In 1992, a number of high-profile Fiji national rugby union team, Fijian rugby union representatives converted to rugby league and entered the Rugby League World Sevens, for which they received lifetime bans from the Fiji Rugby Union. Under the guidance of Bob Abbott (from the Australian Rugby League), a six-team rugby league competition was established in Fiji later that same year. 2021 Eastern Australia Floods
Extreme rainfall on the east coast of Australia beginning on 18 March 2021 led to widespread flooding in New South Wales, affecting regions from the North Coast to the Sydney metropolitan area in the south. Suburbs of Sydney experienced the worst flooding in 60 years, and the events were described by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian as " one in 100-year" flooding. Far-southeast communities in Queensland were also affected by flooding and heavy rainfall, though to a lesser extent than those in New South Wales.
