Private railway stations were a logical development of the rapid growth in railway transportation during the 19th century. Whereas financiers looked to place their stations so as to balance the cost of the construction with expected revenue from the nearby populace, wealthy people utilised this new mode of transport by creating a halt solely for the use of their family, guests and staff. Examples The earliest recorded such halt is Crathes Station in Aberdeenshire, built for Sir Robert Burnett of Leys in 1853. Such was his family's authority that even messenger trains run when Queen Victoria was in residence at Balmoral had to stop there, just in case he wanted to get on. Kaiserbahnhof Bad Homburg
Bad Homburg station is located in Bad Homburg, Hesse, Germany on the Homburg Railway and was opened on 26 October 1907. It is used by about 19,000 passengers each day. Historical background The new through station in Bad Homburg replaced two older terminal stations. One of these stations was at the site of the present town hall and was the terminus of the line from Frankfurt am Main that was opened in 1860 by the ''Homburg Railways'' (german: Homburger Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft). In 1895 the Prussian state railways opened another terminus, called ''Homburg Neu'' (new) station, for the High Taunus line from Homburg via Friedrichsdorf to Usingen. This second station was between the lower end of the street of Louisenstraße and the current connection to the autobahn. The two stations were separated by a distance of 200 to 300 metres. Kaiserbahnhof Halbe
Kaiserbahnhof Halbe is a railway station located in Halbe, on the main line between Berlin, which begins at the Görlitzer railway station, to Cottbus in Brandenburg and on to Görlitz in Saxony. It was built during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm I and used by his son Emperor Frederick III and his grandson Kaiser Wilhelm II between 1865 and 1912, when it as converted to offices and accommodation for railway workers. Having falling into disrepair in the 1990s it has now being restored to its 1865 state. Major works were completed in 2010, being the construction of a new roof and the restoration of two decorative towers at the north western and eastern corners of the building. In 2011, the first floor windows were repaired and all external brickwork repointed. Mendig is a station in the town of Mendig in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It was called ''Niedermendig'' until 1877. It is located on the Cross Eifel Railway (''Eifelquerbahn''), which has two tracks from Andernach station and continues as a single track to Gerolstein station. The only set of points at the station is located west of the platform just before the Bahnstraße level crossing and has the points number of 23.
