Kadal (; ) is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language drama film co-written, co-produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. The film stars debutantes Gautham Karthik, and Thulasi Nair, with Arjun Sarja, Aravind Swamy and Lakshmi Manchu in supporting roles. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman. The film revolves around life of Christian fishermen who instill the fact that how faith can sometimes lead to the triumph of humanity. The film was dubbed into Telugu as ''Kadali''. The film was released worldwide on 1 February 2013 to generally positive reviews, in both the versions. Coincidentally, the leading pair of this movie had their parents- the hero's father Karthik & heroine's mother Radha as established actors, by appearing together in their debut film Alaigal Oivathillai (1981). Mani Ratnam
Gopala Ratnam Subramaniam (born 2 June 1956), known professionally as Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who predominantly works in Tamil cinema and few Hindi, Telugu and Kannada films. Ratnam has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and numerous awards at various film festivals across the world. In 2002, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, acknowledging his contributions to film. Karthik (actor)
Murali Karthikeyan Muthuraman (born 13 September 1960), better known by his stage name Karthik, is an Indian actor, playback singer and politician who works mainly in Tamil cinema. He is the son of veteran actor R. Muthuraman. In the 1980s and 90s, Karthik was one of the biggest stars in the industry. He was first introduced by Bharathiraja in the Tamil film ''Alaigal Oivathillai'' (1981) and became a lead actor in Tamil films by his own. ''Raavan'' is a 2010 Indian Hindi-language epic action-adventure film written and directed by Mani Ratnam, who also co-produced the film. It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram, while Govinda, Nikhil Dwivedi, Ravi Kishan and Priyamani feature in key supporting roles. It marks the Hindi film debuts of Vikram and Priyamani. The film follows the crux of the epic ''Ramayana'', but with a modernized plot which reveals the perspective of Ravana. Eka Lakhani
Eka Lakhani (born 1987) is an Indian fashion costume designer, who has worked in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries. After beginning her career as an intern on the sets of '' Raavan'' (2010), she has become director Mani Ratnam's costume designer for his films since 2013. She has also worked in projects by directors Rajkumar Hirani, Karan Johar and Gautham Menon. Career Lakhani studied fashion design at SNDT Women's University, Mumbai for three years, and then spent a year at Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City.
