Vanuatu Cricket Ground is a cricket ground in Port Vila, Vanuatu. It hosted the 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier tournament in September 2022. Port Vila (french: Port-Vila), or simply Vila (; french: Vila; bi, Vila ), is the capital and largest city of Vanuatu. It is located on the island of Efate. Vanuatu Cricket, officially the Vanuatu Cricket Association, is the national governing body of the sport of cricket in Vanuatu. Its current headquarters is in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Vanuatu Cricket Association is Vanuatu's representative at the International Cricket Council and is an associate member and has been a member of that body since 2009. It is also a member of the East Asia-Pacific Cricket Council. The Senior Men's Team achieved Associate status with the ICC after winning the prestigious ICC EAP Cup in 2009 (undefeated). Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier
The 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier was a cricket tournament that formed part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The first stage of the qualification pathway in the East Asia-Pacific (EAP) region consisted of two sub-regional qualifiers: Qualifier A in Vanuatu in September 2022, and Qualifier B in Japan in October 2022. The Cook Islands and Fiji both played their first official men's T20I matches during Qualifier A. Vanuatu finished top of Qualifier A with five wins out of six, and advanced to the regional final. The 2022 Women's T20I Pacific Cup was a women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) cricket tournament that took place in Port Vila, Vanuatu, from 3 to 6 October 2022. It was the inaugural edition of the Women's T20I Pacific Cup. The participants were the women's national sides of Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. The 2005 ICC EAP Cricket Cup was held in Vanuatu between 23 and 29 September 2005 as part of the qualification for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Sport In Vanuatu
Sports in Vanuatu are played throughout the country. Football (Soccer) Association football is the most popular sport in the country. In 1988, Vanuatu became a member of FIFA and the OFC. Vanuatu has one of the most advanced technical programs in Oceania, particularly at youth level. The Melanesian nation was chosen as one of six countries globally for a FIFA pilot project whereby players are identified at a young age and selected to train and stay full-time at the national academy. As part of that two-year program for players aged 15–17, consideration is given to continuing school or vocational education. The men's national football team has never qualified for the World Cup.
