KZEW (101.7 FM broadcasting, FM, "The Zoo") is a radio station broadcasting an adult contemporary music format. Licensed to Wheatland, Wyoming, United States, the station is currently owned by Smith Broadcasting, Incorporated, and features programming from NBC News Radio and Dial Global. History The station went on the air as KYCN-FM on November 15, 1984. On September 4, 1998, the station changed its call sign to the current KZEW. KBFB (97.9 FM) is a commercial radio station with an urban contemporary radio format, known as "97.9 The Beat." It is licensed to Dallas, Texas and serves the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. KBFB is owned by Urban One. The studios and offices, along with sister station KZMJ, are in the Galleria Area in North Dallas. KBFB has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts. Wheatland is a town in and the county seat of Platte County, Wyoming, Platte County in southeastern Wyoming, United States. The population was 3,627 at the United States Census, 2010, 2010 census. History Before the late 19th century, the area around the future site of Wheatland was a flat, arid landscape with desert-like vegetation. In 1883 local rancher and judge Joseph M. The company takes its name from an earlier network also named Westwood One, a company founded in 1978. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose.
