KXBR (Missouri)
KXBR was a radio station in the Missouri Ozarks. The station was licensed to Greenfield, Missouri, United States, and broadcast at 93.5 MHz from 1974 to 1990. It primarily served the Springfield area with a rock format. However, it failed twice due to financial difficulties, the second time after a lease dispute with a landowner resulted in a verdict against the station. History On June 1, 1973, the Watkins Investment Company filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to build a new radio station in Greenfield, which was granted on November 13, 1973. It signed on in March 1974 as KRFG "Radio Free Greenfield", broadcasting with 2.35 kW effective radiated power from a transmitter outside of Greenfield. Greenfield is a city in Dade County, Missouri. The population was 1,220 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Dade County. History Greenfield was laid out in 1841, and named for the greenery of the original town site. A post office called Greenfield has been in operation since 1850. The Greenfield square is lined with buildings built in the 1880s out of bricks made in the Greenfield Brickyard. The Greenfield Opera House Building, which opened in 1888, is known as the "Jewel of the Square" and is still used for the summer productions of the Dade County Community Theater. KIXQ (102.5 FM, "KIX 102.5") is a country music formatted radio station licensed in Joplin, Missouri, and is owned by the Zimmer Radio It is the third radio station in the four-state area to multicast in HD Radio. KIXQ is simulcast on HD-1. KZRG is simulcasted on HD-2. KIXQ was part of the family-owned Zimmer Radio Group. The stations were sold in July 2007 to James Zimmer and he created a new company called Zimmer Radio, Inc. In the spring of 1981 under the ownership of Pat Demaree, 102.5 was a Top 40 (CHR) format under the moniker Z-103 and was rebranded "The Z 102.5" around 1990 under the helm of Al Zar and Gary Bandy that lasted a year. Following that time, the station went through a number of format changes including adult contemporary and satellite-fed country.
