KWID (101.9 FM, "La Buena 101.9") is a commercial radio station that is licensed to Las Vegas, Nevada. The station is owned by Lotus Communications and broadcasts a Spanish-language adult hits format. The KWID studios are located in the unincorporated community of Spring Valley in Clark County and its transmitter is on Black Mountain in Henderson. Prior to the use of the call letters in Las Vegas, there was an unrelated shortwave radio station called KWID during World War II. Based in San Francisco, the original KWID was commissioned by the federal government to reach an international audience. It served as the basis for what later became the Voice of America radio network. KOMP (92.3 MHz) is a class-C FM radio station licensed to Las Vegas, Nevada. KOMP broadcasts an active rock music format. Its studios are in the unincorporated community of Spring Valley in Clark County and its transmitter is on Potosi Mountain southwest of the Las Vegas Valley. KOMP broadcasts in HD Radio. KLAV (1230 AM) is a commercial radio station located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Owned by Lotus Communications, the station airs a betting-focused all-sports radio format featuring programming from the locally-based Vegas Stats & Information Network and programming from SportsMap. Its studios are located in the unincorporated community of Spring Valley in Clark County and its transmitter is located in North Las Vegas. KWWN (1100 AM) is a radio station licensed to Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The station is owned by Lotus Communications. Programming includes the UNLV Rebels football and men's basketball teams, the Las Vegas Aces, ESPN Radio talk shows and play-by-play, and various local talk shows. Its studios are located in the unincorporated community of Spring Valley in Clark County and its transmitter is located in North Las Vegas. Station history KWWN officially signed on in December 2007, and was running tests of its transmitter for several months. These tests were mainly to arrange the nighttime directional signal of the station, so it would not interfere with nearby KNZZ or other stations on 1100 kHz. Headquarters are located in Los Angeles, and the company's President and CEO is Howard Kalmenson. Radio , Lotus has a total of 34 stations in Arizona, California, and Nevada. KENO (1460 kHz) is a Spanish language sports/talk AM radio station in Las Vegas, Nevada owned by Lotus Communications. Its studios are located in the unincorporated community of Spring Valley in Clark County and its transmitter is located northwest of downtown Las Vegas. History KENO, Las Vegas' first successful radio station, was founded in 1941 by Laura Belle and Maxwell Kelch. (John Heaton had operated KGIX from 1930 to 1935, but low power and limited hours made it unprofitable.) Shortwave radio is radio transmission using shortwave (SW) radio frequencies. There is no official definition of the band, but the range always includes all of the high frequency band (HF), which extends from 3 to 30 MHz (100 to 10 metres); above the medium frequency band (MF), to the bottom of the VHF band. Radio waves in the shortwave band can be reflected or refracted from a layer of electrically charged atoms in the atmosphere called the ionosphere. Easy listening (including mood music) is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non-rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs. It mostly concentrates on music that pre-dates the rock and roll era, characteristically on music from the 1940s and 1950s.
