KWBU-FM
KWBU-FM (103.3 MHz), is a public non-commercial FM radio station in Waco, Texas, serving the greater Brazos Valley region. It is operated by Baylor University, with studios on River Street in Waco. The station's Federal Communications Commission license is held by the Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation, a nonprofit community organization. Baylor has a majority of votes on the foundation board. Many shows come from National Public Radio, with Central Texas news and information updates. There are also blocks of classical music in late mornings and evenings, with jazz shows on weekends. The BBC World Service is heard overnight. History KWBU-FM first signed on in 2000, originally on 107.1 MHz (now the location for Regional Mexican music station KLZT). KWBU-TV
KDYW, virtual channel 34 ( UHF digital channel 20), was a non-commercial educational television station licensed to Waco, Texas, United States. The station was owned by the Brazos Valley Broadcasting Foundation. As KCTF and KWBU-TV, it operated as a PBS member station for much of its on-air history, but was slated to be sold to Community Television Educators of Waco, Inc., a group associated with the Daystar Television Network, before surrendering its license. History The station began in 1978, when Central Texas College's KNCT set up a low-powered translator on channel 34 in Waco, as a way to bring PBS programming to the city. Until then, cable systems in the area piped in both KNCT and KERA-TV in Dallas. Richland Mall is a regional shopping mall in Waco, Texas owned by CBL & Associates Properties located on . The mall opened in 1980. It has 95 stores with five anchors. The anchor stores are JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, 2 Dillard's stores, and Shoe Dept. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once Dillard's and Gordmans. The mall contains two Dillard's stores, one of which was originally H. J. Wilson Co. and later Service Merchandise. On December 28, 2018, it was announced that Sears would be closing as part of a plan to close 80 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2019. Dillard's has since renovated the former Sears space and moved one of its store into it. The new store opened in May 2020. Hewitt, Texas
Hewitt is a city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 16,026 at the 2020 census, making it the second largest city in the county. It is part of the Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The community of Hewitt was established following the donation of land by John A. Warren, the town's first businessman, in the 1880s. Warren purchased roughly and the town site was named Hewitt in 1883 for George A. Hewitt, an employee of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. During the following decades, the community flourished on farming and agriculture during the days when "cotton was king". Hewitt grew slowly but steadily, incorporating as a city in 1960, and the population skyrocketed in the 1970s. Background The newspaper has its roots in five predecessors, beginning with the ''Waco Evening Telephone'' in 1892. The ''Tribune-Herald'' took its current identity when E.S. Fentress and Charles Marsh, who owned the ''Waco News-Tribune,'' bought the ''Waco Times-Herald.'' That purchase was the beginning of Newspapers, Inc., a chain that eventually owned 13 newspapers. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America.
