List Of Burials In The Valley Of The Kings
The following is a list of burials in the Valley of the Kings, in Thebes (modern Luxor, Egypt) and nearby areas. The numbering system was established by John Gardner Wilkinson in 1821. Wilkinson numbered the 21 tombs known to him (some of which had been open since antiquity) according to their location, starting at the entrance to the valley and then moving south and east. Tombs that have been discovered since then have been allocated a sequential KV number (those in the Western Valley are known by the WV equivalent) in the order of their discovery. Since the mid 20th century, Egyptologists have used the acronym "KV" (standing for Kings' Valley) to designate tombs located in the Valley of the Kings. KV37
Tomb KV37 is an ancient Egyptian tomb located in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. The presence of bone fragments and white-washed storage jars indicate that the tomb was used for a burial, probably in the Eighteenth Dynasty. However, its original occupants are unknown. Location, discovery and excavation KV37 is located in a side branch of the southern side valley, just below the tomb of Thutmose III (KV34). Cut into the base of the cliff near the stairs to KV34, it is now well below the modern ground level. The tomb was discovered by Victor Loret in 1899; his excavation mentioned finds of ostraca and artefacts bearing the names of Thutmose IV and Seti I. The tomb also evidently contained pottery vessels that were noted by Elizabeth Thomas.
