KUTX
KUTX (98.9 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed to Leander, Texas and serving the greater Austin, Texas area with an Adult album alternative format. The station is owned by University of Texas at Austin with headquarters at the Belo Center for New Media (A0704) on the University of Texas at Austin campus. History 98.9 signed on in 1988 at 99.1 FM as KLTD, "Kool 99 FM" with the Satellite Music Network's "Kool Gold" format by Adams Broadcasting, which eventually spun off the Kool Gold format to Dial Global. On July 3, 1993, KLTD changed calls to KUTZ and format to hard rock as part of the Satellite Music Network-Z Rock Network. In 1996, 98.9 FM changed to news/talk as KJFK, which lasted until September 2000 when Border Media Partners acquired the station and changed formats to Rock AC as "The Hill", KHHL. KVLR (92.5 FM broadcasting, FM) is a radio station licensed to Sunset Valley, Texas (Austin, Texas) and is owned by Educational Media Foundation. It is the Austin affiliate for EMF's Air 1 radio, airing a Christian Worship format. The station also has two translators at 92.1 FM Austin, Texas, Austin and 92.9 FM Del Valle, Texas, Del Valle. History The station started in the early '90s as KKLB ("Club 92") with a contemporary Spanish format. In the early 2000s, KKLB switched to Spanish Oldies as La Lupe 92.5 FM, but kept the KKLB calls. Leander ( ) is a city in Williamson County and Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 59,202 at the 2020 census and 67,124 at the 2021 census estimate. Classic hits is a radio format which generally includes songs from the top 40 music charts from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, with music from the 1980s serving as the core of the format. Music that was popularized by MTV in the early 1980s and the nostalgia behind it is a major driver to the format.
