The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States. The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security. The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission. The FCC took over wire communication regulation from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The FCC's mandated jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories of the United States. The FCC also provides varied degrees of cooperation, oversight, and leadership for similar communications bodies in other countries of North America. The FCC is funded entirely by regulatory fees. Townsquare Media, Inc. (formerly Regent Communications until 2010) is an American radio network and media company based in Purchase, New York. The company started in radio and expanded into digital media toward the end of the 2000s, starting with the acquisition of the MOG Music Network. As of 2019, Townsquare was the third-largest AM–FM operator in the country, owning over 321 radio stations in 67 markets. History As Regent Communications Townsquare Media was established as Regent Communications by Terry Jacobs in 1994. Jacobs was formerly the CEO of Jacor Communications, a radio broadcasting company which he created in 1979. KBOI-FM airs a news/talk format branded as "News Talk KBOI" and is under ownership of Cumulus Media. KBOI (AM)
KBOI (670 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in the western United States, located in Boise, Idaho. It is owned by Cumulus Media and airs a news/talk radio format. Studios and offices are on Bannock Street in Downtown Boise, while its transmitter is located at a six-tower array southwest of the city. KBOI is Idaho's most powerful AM station, broadcasting with 50,000 watts around the clock. During the day, a single non-directional antenna beams the station's full power to Southwestern Idaho and Eastern Oregon. At night, power is fed to all six towers in a directional pattern to avoid interfering with WSCR in Chicago, the Class A clear-channel station on 670 AM. Even though it must direct its signal north-south as a result, KBOI can still be heard with across much of the western half of North America at night with a good radio, but is strongest in the Pacific Northwest.
