KRZY-FM (105.9 FM) is a Spanish-language Grupero and Cumbia music formatted radio station programmed by satellite, serving the Albuquerque, New Mexico, area. It is branded as "La Suavecita 105.9". It is owned by Entravision which also owns local television stations KLUZ, a Univision affiliate, and KTFQ, an Unimás affiliate. It is licensed to Santa Fe, New Mexico. History KNMQ This station signed on in November 1983 as KNMQ-FM and aired a Top40/ CHR format branded as "HitRadio Q-106". The format soon became an instant success when it reached the number two spot in the Spring 1984 Arbitron ratings. The station continued to generate high ratings throughout the mid-80s. KRZY broadcasts a Spanish-language Sports format. History Early years as KLOS On February 24, 1956, E. Boyd Whitney and D. K. McGregor, doing business as B and M Broadcasters, obtained a construction permit for a new radio station at 1450 kHz in Albuquerque, which would broadcast with 250 watts. KLLT was a radio station on 95.3 MHz in Grants, New Mexico, that operated between April 16, 1980, and July 27, 1988. The station's deep indebtedness, combined with a refusal of permission to build a mountaintop tower and move into the Albuquerque radio market, led the station to cease operations. History On October 2, 1979, the Grants Broadcasting Company was granted a construction permit to build a new radio station on 95.3 in Grants, with a transmitter southwest of the city. KYKN signed on April 16, 1980, with a country format. The Rainbow Broadcasting Corporation of Denver, owned by Michelle Z. Elliot, acquired KYKN in 1983 for $115,000.
