KROO (AM)
KROO (1430 AM) is a radio station with a news/talk format, licensed to Breckenridge, Texas. History KROO was licensed in 1947 as KSTB. It was owned by Stephens County Broadcasting Company and operated as a daytimer with 500 watts, later increased to 1,000. In 1956, the original owners sold the station to Coy Perry and C.M. Hatch, who sold to Hugh McBeath the next year. Breckenridge Radio acquired KSTB in 1963. Regal Broadcasting Corporation (in 1967) and Bintz Broadcasting (in 1979) were later owners. In 1993, KSTB became KBIL, with the callsign changed to KROO in 1997. On November 17, 2003 KROO changed its format from soft adult contemporary to oldies. It flipped to adult contemporary on April 23, 2007 and to news/talk on January 10, 2017. Breckenridge is a city in Stephens County, Texas, Stephens County, Texas, United States. The estimated population was 5,349 as of February 2021. It is the county seat of Stephens County, Texas, Stephens County. The mayor is Bob Sims. Breckenridge was a stop on the since defunct Wichita Falls and Southern Railroad, one of the properties of Frank Kell and Joseph A. Kemp of Wichita Falls, Texas. The line was thereafter operated until 1969 by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. Breckenridge High School
Breckenridge High School is a public high school located in the city of Breckenridge, Texas and classified as a 3A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Breckenridge Independent School District located in Stephens County. In 2013, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. Breckenridge High School's mascot is a Buckaroo (a cowboy riding a bucking horse). In 2014 the University Interscholastic League (UIL) released district realignments for many high schools in Texas. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters.
