KROD
KROD (600 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in El Paso, Texas, United States. It airs a sports format and is owned and operated by Townsquare Media. The offices and studios are located on North Mesa Street (Texas State Highway 20) in Northwest El Paso. KROD broadcasts at 5,000 watts around the clock. But at night, when radio waves travel farther, it uses a directional antenna to avoid interfering with other stations on AM 600. It is the West Texas primary entry point station for the Emergency Alert System. The transmitter is located off Dyer Street ( U.S. Business Route 54) in far north El Paso. Programming The station is a network affiliate of ESPN Radio. KROD breaks from the ESPN Network on weekday afternoon drive time for "KROD Sportstalk with Steve Kaplowitz." KLAQ
KLAQ (95.5 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to El Paso, Texas and airing a mainstream rock radio format. The station is owned by Townsquare Media and has studios and offices on North Mesa Street (Texas Route 20) in northwest El Paso. KLAQ's transmitter is located in the Franklin Mountains, off Scenic Drive in El Paso. The station has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 88,000 watts (100,000 with beam tilt). The signal extends north to Las Cruces, New Mexico and south through Ciudad Juárez and the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Programming KLAQ calls itself "El Paso's Best Rock," and frequently hosts largest events and concerts in El Paso. The station is home to the Buzz Adams Morning Show, which is syndicated to other Texas rock stations. The show is heard weekdays, with a "Best of" show on Saturday mornings. Emergency Alert System
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system in the United States designed to allow authorized officials to broadcast emergency alerts and warning messages to the public via cable, satellite, or broadcast television, and both AM/ FM and satellite radio. The EAS became operational on January 1, 1997, after being approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in November 1994, replacing the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS). Its main improvement over the EBS, and perhaps its most distinctive feature, is its application of a digitally encoded audio signal known as Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME), which is responsible for the "screeching" or "chirping" sounds at the start and end of each message.
