KRL Stadium
The Shoaib Akhtar Stadium, formerly known as Khan Research Laboratories Ground, is a multi-use stadium in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. At first named after the Pakistan nuclear enrichment facility Khan Research Laboratories, it was renamed Shoaib Akhtar Stadium in honour of the former Pakistani fast bowler in March 2021. The stadium has a capacity of 8,000 spectators. It is currently used mostly for football matches, on club level by KRL FC of the Pakistan Premier League. It was also used for first-class cricket and List A cricket matches as the home venue for the Khan Research Laboratories cricket team. In September 2019, the Pakistan Cricket Board named it as one of the venues to host matches in the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi ( or ; Urdu, ) is a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is the fourth largest city in Pakistan after Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad, and third largest in Punjab after Lahore and Faisalabad. KRL FC
Khan Research Laboratories Football Club, sometimes abbreviated to KRL F.C. or KRL, is a Pakistani professional football club based in Rawalpindi. The club is affiliated with Khan Research Laboratories and the team play their home games at KRL Stadium. The club has won five league titles and six National Football Challenge Cups. They are the most successful club in the country with eleven trophies. They are the only Pakistani club to reach a continental club finals when they reached the 2013 AFC President's Cup final, losing 1–0 to Balkan FK. Khan Research Laboratories Cricket Team
Khan Research Laboratories was a Pakistani first-class cricket side who played in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and also competed in limited overs cricket. It was sponsored by Pakistani nuclear enrichment facility Khan Research Laboratories (KRL). They have played first-class cricket since the 1997–98 season. After the completion of the 2016–17 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, they had played 171 matches, with 61 wins, 40 losses and 70 draws. Their home ground is KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. In May 2019, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan revamped the domestic cricket structure in Pakistan, excluding departmental teams in favour of regional sides, therefore ending the participation of the team. The Dr. A. Q. Khan Research Laboratories, ( ur, ) or KRL for short, is a federally funded, multi-program national research institute and national laboratory site primarily dedicated to uranium enrichment, supercomputing and fluid mechanics. It is managed by the Ministry of Energy for the Government of Pakistan. The laboratory is located in Kahuta, a short distance north-east of Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. The site was organized to produce weapons-grade nuclear material, primarily weapons-grade uranium, as part of Pakistan's secretive atomic bomb program in the years after the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. Shoaib Akhtar
Shoaib Akhtar (; ; born 13 August 1975) is a Pakistani former cricketer and commentator. Nicknamed the "Rawalpindi Express", he was the first bowler to be recorded bowling at 100 miles per hour, a feat he achieved twice in his career. Akhtar made his Test match debut in November 1997 as an opening fast bowler and played his first One Day International three months later. He has been involved in several controversies during his career, often accused of unsportsmanlike conduct. Akhtar was sent home during a Test match series in Australia in 2005 for alleged poor attitude and a year later received a ban after testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance nandrolone. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is a sports governing body for cricket in Pakistan responsible for controlling and organising all tours and matches undertaken by the Pakistan national cricket team.
