KRKS (990 Hertz, kHz "990 The Word") is a commercial radio, commercial AM Broadcasting, AM radio station city of license, licensed to Denver, Denver, Colorado. The station is owned and operated by Salem Media Group and it airs a Christian talk and teaching radio format. Its studios and offices are located on South Vaughn Way in Aurora, Colorado, Aurora, with the AM transmitter located on East 56th Avenue in North Washington, Colorado, North Washington. KRKS with co-owned KRKS-FM; together, are known as "The Word," but carry most programs at different times of the day. KRKS is powered at 6,500 watts by day; because AM 990 is a Canadian clear channel station, clear channel frequency, KRKS must reduce power at night to only 390 watts. During critical hours at sunrise and sunset, the station broadcasts at 4,200 watts. Michael Youssef (born September 25, 1948) is an Egyptian-American pastor. He is the senior pastor of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia, and the executive president of Leading the Way. Life and career Youssef was born in Egypt, where he became a Christian, and lived in Lebanon and Australia before moving to the United States. While in Australia, Youssef studied at Moore Theological College in Sydney, was ordained as a minister, and met his wife, Elizabeth. Jim Daly (born July 22, 1961) is the head of Focus on the Family, an international Christian communications ministry based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He succeeded founder James Dobson in 2005.
