KOZA
KOZA (1230 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a Tejano music format, licensed to Odessa, Texas. The station was last owned by Stellar Media, Inc. History KOSA KOSA went on the air at 7 am on January 19, 1947, as the CBS radio station for the Permian Basin. Operating on 1450 kHz, the new station was licensed to the Southwestern Broadcasting Corporation, owned by Dorrance D. Roderick. The Roderick stations—KOSA, El Paso's KROD and KSIL in Silver City, New Mexico, all CBS affiliates—formed a regional hookup known as the Southwest Network. The station relocated from 1450 to 1230 kHz on April 20, 1949, after emerging victorious from a hearing in which the Federal Communications Commission denied competing proposals by a series of other stations to use the frequency. Odessa is a city in and the county seat of Ector County, Texas, United States. It is located primarily in Ector County, although a small section of the city extends into Midland County. Odessa's population was 114,428 at the 2020 census, making it the 28th-most populous city in Texas; it is the principal city of the Odessa metropolitan statistical area, which includes all of Ector County. KNDA (1000 AM) was a radio station in Odessa, Texas, that served the Midland–Odessa metropolitan area. It aired Spanish-language formats throughout its 11-year history. In its final days, it was known as Qué Onda with a bilingual Tejano format. History 1000 kHz went on the air as KJJT on September 26, 1980. It was the first Spanish-language station for the Midland-Odessa area. In 1986, L & T Enterprises was sold by its original owners, Alfredo G. Levario and O.L.A., Inc., to Rubén Velásquez, though the station itself claimed that the sale had taken place in 1985 and news reporting stated the transfer was part of a foreclosure sale. 1985 was also the year that KJJT gained its first Spanish-language competitor in the market, when 1310 KOYL flipped to Spanish-language programming under new ownership. KHKX (99.1 FM), branded as "Kicks 99 Country", is a radio station that serves the Midland–Odessa metropolitan area with country music and live high school football for Odessa High School and Permian High School. They are a former affiliate for the Dallas Cowboys and broadcast the #1 rated country morning show in the Midland-Odessa area with Mike and Dana.
