The Dutch Allround Championships of speed skating, organised by the KNSB, is the official Dutch championship In sport, a championship is a competition in which the aim is to decide which individual or team is the champion. Speed Skating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in travelling a certain distance on skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". An international federation was founded in 1892, the first for any winter sport. The sport enjoys large popularity in the Netherlands, Norway and South Korea. There are top international rinks in a number of other countries, including Canada, the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Belarus and Poland. Egbert Van 't Oever
Egbert van 't Oever (15 July 1927 – 5 October 2001) was a Dutch speed skater. He competed at the 1952 Winter Olympics and the 1956 Winter Olympics. Biography Van 't Oever coached Yvonne van Gennip at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary where she won three gold medals. He was later coach of Marianne Timmer Maria Aaltje ("Marianne") Timmer (born 3 October 1974) is a Dutch former speed skater specializing in the middle distances (1000 and 1500 m). At the 1998 Winter Olympics Timmer won a gold medal in both these events. Speed skating career I .... Until his death, he remained active in skating as a coach. At the end of the speed skating season, the Egbert van 't Oever Encouragement Prize is awarded to the most promising Dutch junior speed skater. Egbert van 't Oever died at the age of 74 from the consequences of colon cancer. Cornelis "Kees" Broekman (2 July 1927 – 8 November 1992) was a Dutch speed skater. At the 1952 Olympics in Oslo Broekman was silver medalist on both the 5000 meter and the 10000 meter, the first ever Winter Olympic medals for the Netherlands. He won a silver medal at the World Allround Speed Skating Championships for Men 1949, and became European champion 1953. Jaap Havekotte (16 March 1912 – 23 April 2014) was a Dutch speed skater. He skated in several Dutch championships during the 1940s, but is best known as the founder of Viking Schaatsenfabriek, a Dutch producer of ice skates. The Viking ice skate proved to be very popular, and by 1972 every speed skating world record was skated on Viking ice skates.
