KKNS (1310 AM) is an American radio station licensed to Corrales, New Mexico, serving the Albuquerque metropolitan area. It is owned by The Navajo Nation and broadcasts talk and music programs in English and in the Navajo language. By day, it is powered at 5,000 watts non-directional. But to reduce interference at night to other stations on 1310 AM, it reduces power to only 82 watts. The transmitter is on Montbel Place in Albuquerque. History The sign-on of KXAK on July 15, 1985, returned 1310 kHz to use for the first time in Albuquerque since the demise of KARA in May 1968. KKRG-FM (105.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to Santa Fe, New Mexico, covering the Albuquerque area and northern New Mexico. It is currently owned by American General Media. Its studios are located in Northeast Albuquerque (a mile north of Central Avenue) and the transmitter tower is located west of Los Alamos, New Mexico. KARA was a radio station on 1310 AM in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. The station operated from December 1, 1959 to May 18, 1968. Over much of its history, KARA encountered financial difficulties, which ultimately forced the station to cease operations and declare bankruptcy. History KARA began broadcasting December 1, 1959. It was originally owned by KARA, Inc., and became Albuquerque's ABC Radio affiliate. It was the tenth radio station in town, operating a continuous music format; launch promotions stated that the station was "Keeping Albuquerque Radio Active". Corrales is a village in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States. First farmed by Tiquex Pueblo people, chosen due to its proximity to the Rio Grande, as documented by Hispano farmers of Nuevo México in the late 1500s. KTNN
KTNN is a Navajo language AM (medium-wave) radio station broadcasting on 660 AM from Window Rock, Arizona, the seat of the government of the Navajo Nation. It broadcasts Navajo tribal music and audio from Navajo ceremonial ('' powwow'') dances and Native American music, as well as country music and bluegrass in English. It also broadcasts High School basketball games from the local high schools on the Navajo Reservation. Most of its announcers are bilingual and broadcast in Navajo and English. At the time the station came on the air in 1986, it claimed to be the last station allowed to go on the air with a full 50,000 watts on another station's clear channel frequency; however, other stations have been allowed since. The New Mexico State University teams are called the Aggies, a nickname derived from the university's agricultural beginnings. The mascot is known as " Pistol Pete". NMSU's colors are crimson and white. KIVA (1600 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is owned by the Rock of Talk LLC and airs a talk radio format. Studios and offices are located at 2309 Renard Place Southeast, near the Albuquerque International Sunport. KIVA broadcasts with 10,000 watts by day.
