KIKI (990 AM, "Fox Sports 990") is a sports radio station licensed to Honolulu, Hawaii, and owned by . Its studios and transmitter are separately located in the Kalihi neighborhood of Honolulu. History The station signed on the air as KHVH in 1957 by then-owner Kaiser Broadcasting, who would later sell the station in 1965. In 1993, KHVH swapped frequencies with Oldies station KIKI, then at 830 kHz. KIKI at 990 would drop oldies for news in 1994, followed by a flip to country music from 1997 to 1999, a simulcast of KHJZ from 1999 to 2001, and a flip to business news in 2001 as KHBZ, only to evolve into its talk radio format by 2004. Kalihi
Kalihi is a neighborhood of Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi, United States. Split by the Likelike Highway (Route 63), it is flanked by downtown Honolulu to the east and Mapunapuna, Moanalua and Salt Lake to the west. Kalihi is the name of the '' ahupuaʻa'' (ancient land division) between Kahauiki and Kapālama in the Kona (now Honolulu) district of O'ahu. The ahupua'a consists of Kalihi Uka, Kalihi Waena and Kalihi Kai. Historically, Kalihi Kai was the site of the former Leprosy Receiving Station, where those suspected of leprosy were examined prior to treatment or being sent to Kalaupapa on the island of Molokaʻi. Kalihi was also known for its fishponds, ʻĀpili, Pahouiki, Pahounui, ʻAuiki, and Ananoho, near the present Sand Island Access Road (Route 64) all of which have since been filled in. C-QUAM (Compatible QUadrature Amplitude Modulation) is the method of AM stereo broadcasting used in Canada, the United States and most other countries. It was invented in 1977 by Norman Parker, Francis Hilbert, and Yoshio Sakaie, and published in an IEEE journal. Using circuitry developed by Motorola, C-QUAM uses quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) to encode the stereo separation signal. This extra signal is then stripped down in such a way that it is compatible with the envelope detector of older receivers, hence the name C-QUAM for Compatible.
