KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl
The KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl is a series of football games, typically held on the first weekend of December, that determine the high school champions of the U.S. state of Kentucky. The tournaments that lead to the championship games, as well as regular-season competition, are governed by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA). History The KHSAA began conducting state football championships in 1959. Throughout its history, the competition has been divided into classes based on enrollment (though with historic exceptions noted below). The history of classifications is as follows: * 1959–1974: Three-class system. All schools in Jefferson County, which includes (and is now consolidated with) the state's largest city of Louisville, were placed in Class 3A regardless of enrollment. Pulaski County High School (PCHS) is a public high school located in Pulaski County, Kentucky, United States. It is operated by Pulaski County Schools. It serves the communities of Eubank, Shopville, Woodstock, and parts of the City of Somerset, Kentucky. Simon Kenton High School is a high school located at 11132 Madison Pike in Independence, Kentucky. The school's mascot is the Pioneers. History On June 19, 1935, an application was filed with the Public Works Administration for Kenton County, Kentucky for funds to construct a public high school. The application was approved, and on November 2, 1935, a deed was signed for a site on Madison Pike, one-half mile south of the center of the city of Independence. Robert Beatty (born 7 June 1955) is a football coach and the former head football coach for the Trinity Shamrocks, a high school American football team located at Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the most successful High School Football coach in Kentucky state history by championships won, with 15 state championship titles and one national championship during his nearly forty-year-long career. Background Beatty was born on 7 June 1955, in Butler, Missouri, and was raised in and around the surrounding Bates County. In 1973, he attended Pittsburg State University until 1976, when he transferred to Missouri Southern State College, where he graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor's degree in Education.
