KERB-FM (106.3 FM) was a radio station broadcasting a Spanish religious format in Kermit, Texas. The station was last owned by La Radio Cristiana Network, Inc. History In 1984, Hispanic Broadcasting Company obtained the construction permit for a new, 3,000-watt FM radio station at 106.3 FM in Kermit. A year later, the permit was sold to the owners of KERB, the daytime-only AM radio station in town, and signed on as KERB-FM in 1986, when the station filed for its license to cover. In March 1988, owners M.F. and Jean Welch agreed to transfer control of KERB Broadcasting, Inc., to Marlin D. Kuykendall. The FCC approved the transfer on April 12, 1988, and the move was consummated on May 1, 1988. Less than two years later, the station faced financial difficulties, and in January 1991, the KERB and KERB-FM broadcast licenses were involuntarily transferred from KERB Broadcasting, Inc., to Ron White acting as receiver. KERB (AM)
KERB (600 AM) was an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Kermit, Texas. Launched in June 1950, the station employed many West Texas musical figures before they were famous, including future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Roy Orbison. The station's broadcast license was last held by La Radio Cristiana Network, Inc. Owner Paulino Bernal surrendered the license for KERB and five other stations to the Federal Communications Commission on Nov. 7, 2013. Programming KERB, like most rural American radio stations in the 1950s, had launched with an eclectic mix of music styles but became a solid country & western outlet through the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Kermit, Texas
Kermit is a city in and the county seat of Winkler County, Texas, Winkler County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,708 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. The city was named after Kermit Roosevelt following a visit by his father, President Theodore Roosevelt, to the county. History Establishment Kermit began as a convenient supply center for the scattered ranches of the area and became the seat of Winkler County when the county was organized in 1910. The first public school and the post office opened the same year. KOZA
KOZA (1230 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a Tejano music format, licensed to Odessa, Texas. The station was last owned by Stellar Media, Inc. History KOSA KOSA went on the air at 7 am on January 19, 1947, as the CBS radio station for the Permian Basin. Operating on 1450 kHz, the new station was licensed to the Southwestern Broadcasting Corporation, owned by Dorrance D. Roderick. The Roderick stations—KOSA, El Paso's KROD and KSIL in Silver City, New Mexico, all CBS affiliates—formed a regional hookup known as the Southwest Network. The station relocated from 1450 to 1230 kHz on April 20, 1949, after emerging victorious from a hearing in which the Federal Communications Commission denied competing proposals by a series of other stations to use the frequency.
