KDXE (FM)
KDXE (101.1 MHz, "101.1 FM The Answer") is an FM radio station broadcasting a Conservative Talk format in Little Rock, Arkansas (licensed to enclave Cammack Village). The station is currently owned by Salem Media Group, through licensee Salem Communications Holding Corporation. The station's studios are south of downtown near Philander Smith College, and the transmitter tower is located on Shinall Mountain, near the Chenal Valley neighborhood of Little Rock. On June 1, 1998, after a 10-day stunt with various genres of music, 101.1 FM signed on as modern rock-formatted "Lick 101" KDRE. According to FCC filings, the station went silent sometime around November 1, 2008, as the licensee was unable to negotiate an extension of the contract with the owner of the transmitter location. The FCC granted permission to remain silent while the station's owner put together the paperwork to move the transmitter to a new location. Cammack Village, Arkansas
Cammack Village is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 768 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway metropolitan area. History Cammack Village is located on land originally owned by Wiley Dan Cammack. During the 1930s, Cammack allowed the land to be used for a Works Progress Administration roads project. Sometime before 1943, Cammack attempted to have the land annexed by the city of Little Rock, which lay to the east, but the city demurred, stating the land was "too far west". Shortly after that, during World War II, Cammack turned the land over to the United States Government to alleviate military housing shortages at Camp Joseph T. Philander Smith College is a private historically black college in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is a founding member of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Philander Smith College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. History Philander Smith College was officially founded in 1877 under the name of Walden Seminary to provide educational opportunities for emancipated slaves west of the Mississippi River. In 1882 the school was renamed Philander Smith College in honor of the financial contributions of Adeline Smith, widow of Philander Smith. It was chartered as a four-year college in 1883 and conferred its first bachelor's degree in 1888. In 1933, it merged the assets of the George R. KIPR
KIPR (92.3 FM, "Power 92 Jams") is a commercial radio station carrying an urban contemporary format located in Little Rock, Arkansas and licensed to Pine Bluff. It is owned by Cumulus Media. The station's studios are located in West Little Rock, and the transmitter tower is located in Jefferson, northwest of Pine Bluff. Due to the transmitter location emitting 100 kilowatts, the signal covers most of Central Arkansas including places like Brinkley, North Little Rock, Conway, Gould, Fordyce and Dumas. Station history KIPR airs an urban contemporary format, which was launched in 1988. (Its roots can be traced back to KPWR/Los Angeles due to having KPWR's radio consultant Don Kelly serving as KIPR's programming consultant at the time). Urban Contemporary
Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of Black genres such as R&B, pop-rap, quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, hip hop, Latin music such as Latin pop, Chicano R&B and Chicano rap, and Caribbean music such as reggae and soca. Urban contemporary was developed through the characteristics of genres such as R&B and soul. Rhythmic oldies is a radio format that concentrates on the rhythmic, R&B, disco, or dance genres of music. Playlists can span from the 1960s through the 2000s and, depending on market conditions, may be designed for African-American or Hispanic audiences. It is also referred to as "Jammin' Oldies" or "Music From Back in the Day" by various radio stations. Since the late 2000s, much of the library in the "rhythmic oldies" format has been adopted by the classic hits format. A variation on the format is urban oldies.
