Oakwood, Texas
Oakwood is a town in Leon and Freestone counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 389 at the 2020 census. It was founded in 1872 as a stop on the International Railroad. Geography Oakwood is located in northeastern Leon County at (31.584816, –95.850666). USGS topographic maps show the northern town boundary following the Leon/Freestone County line, but maps by the U.S. Census show the town extending slightly north into Freestone County. U.S. Route 79 runs through the town as Broad Street, leading northeast to Palestine and southwest to Buffalo. The station is currently owned by North Texas Radio Group, L.P. History KTLU was initially proposed by State Representative Emmett Holman Whitehead to serve as Rusk's lone radio facility. The Texas State Network is the largest of the 30 state radio networks in the United States. TSN mainly distributes news and agriculture business to more than 130 AM and FM radio affiliates across Texas. History The Texas State Network was founded in 1938 by presidential son Elliott Roosevelt, who was loaned money by the oil magnate Sid Richardson to eventually buy a dozen stations (many are still affiliates) that formed the Texas State Network. KEBE (1400 AM broadcasting, AM) is a terrestrial American radio station, paired with an FCC authorized and licensed revitalization FM relay translator. The facility is licensed to Jacksonville, Texas, United States, and is owned by North Texas Radio Group, L.P. History AM 1400 KEBE Jacksonville, was licensed in 1946 to Bill A. Laurie of Jacksonville, Texas. KEBE was branded "The KEBE Corral", and was one of the first country stations in the United States. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, KEBE became the career starter for East Texas radio legend, Tom Perryman. In 1957, Bill Laurie died in a fishing accident.
