PNG is the abbreviation of the name and during the 1970s, PNG was a powerhouse high school football team, winning the Texas Class 4A (the largest) championship at Texas Stadium in Irving in December 1975. KRGE
KRGE (1290 AM) is a radio station in Weslaco, Texas. It is owned by Christian Ministries of the Valley and carries a Spanish Christian format known as Radio Vida. History Early years and time-share with KWWG KRGE is one of the Valley's oldest radio stations, receiving its license in 1925 with the callsign KFLU. The station was owned by the San Benito Radio Club and broadcast for its first two years on 1270 kHz with 15 watts, later raised to 100. Programs were broadcast on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 to 9pm. Two years later, the Harlingen Music Company took over the station and changed the callsign to KHMC and then KRGV, relocating the station from San Benito to Harlingen. A radio reallocation in 1928 forced KRGV to 1260 kHz, where it shared time with KWWG, the radio station of the ''Brownsville Herald'' and the first radio station in the Valley; additionally, KRGV increased its power to 500 watts. KBIC (105.7 FM broadcasting, FM, "Radio Vida") is a radio station broadcasting a Spanish language, Spanish Religious broadcasting, Religious format. Licensed to Raymondville, Texas, United States, the station serves the McAllen-Brownsville-Harlingen area. The station is currently owned by Christian Ministries of the Valley. History The Federal Communications Commission issued a construction permit for the station on March 5, 1991. The station was assigned the call sign KQUF on May 3, 1991. On October 7, 1991, the station changed its call sign to KARU, and on June 1, 1995, to the current KBIC. The station was granted its Broadcast license, license to cover on December 31, 1997. Port Neches is a city in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 13,692 at the 2020 census, up from 13,040 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area. History The area known as Port Neches was once inhabited by tribes of the coastal-dwelling Karankawa and Atakapa Native Americans. Smith's Bluff (the future site of Sun Oil and Union Oil of California riverside property) and Grigsby's Bluff (now Port Neches) were the only two high land bluffs on the Neches River south of Beaumont, whose name is believed to have been derived from the Caddo word "Nachawi", meaning "wood of the bow", after Spanish settlers called it ''Río Neches''. Groves, Texas
Groves is a city in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 17,335 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Beaumont– Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1886, Sam Courville moved his family from a Sabine Lake settlement in Port Arthur to a new home on of land. It was in that same general area around 1911 that John Warne Gates purchased additional tracts of land. The land was conveyed to the Griffing brothers of Port Arthur in 1916, and three years later Griffing Brothers Nursery employee Wiley Choate supervised the planting of several thousand pecan trees on a tract. In 1921, the Port Arthur Land Development Company took control of the site and divided the land into a residential subdivision known as "Pecan Grove". The name was later changed to "Groves", after development representative and pioneer Port Arthurian Asa Groves. A post office was established in 1927 and a school opened in 1929. Texas Stadium was an American football stadium located in Irving, Texas, a suburb west of Dallas. Opened on October 24, 1971, it was known for its distinctive hole in the roof, the result of abandoned plans to construct a retractable roof (Cowboys linebacker D. D. Lewis once famously said that "Texas Stadium has a hole in its roof, so God can watch His favorite team play").
