KBIF (900 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a World Ethnic format to the Fresno, California, United States, area. The station is currently owned by Cordell Overgaard, through licensee Overgaard Broadcasting LLC. KBIF broadcasts in the Hmong language from Monday to Friday and in Punjabi on Saturday and Sunday. History Early years The Radio Sanger Company, formed by four prominent local farmers, was granted a construction permit by the Federal Communications Commission on March 12, 1947, to build a 1,000-watt, daytime-only radio station to serve nearby Sanger on 900 kHz. The station was constructed at Centerville. KSGN signed on September 8, 1947. The station was sold for the first time in 1950 to a group led by Earl J. Fenston, a Fresno attorney; by this time, it had established satellite studios at Fresno's Sequoia Hotel. KICU-TV (Visalia, California)
KICU-TV was a television station on channel 43 in Visalia, California, United States. It operated from December 1961 until October 1968. The transmitter was located east of Badger at Eshom Point. History KICU-TV began broadcasting on December 26, 1961. It was owned by Sierra Broadcasting, Inc., of San Francisco, which was headed by Norwood Patterson and co-owned with Fresno's KBIF radio after Patterson acquired it in early 1962. Patterson had previously acquired the Eshom Point transmitter site, which had been used by another failed television station in the area, KVVG-TV (channel 27). The station initially broadcast for four and a half hours a day, with movies as the prime attraction; it would also air programs that Fresno's NBC and CBS affiliates did not clear. KMJ (580 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Fresno, California. It airs a news/talk radio format, and simulcasts with sister station KMJ-FM. Owned by Cumulus Media, the studios and offices are located at the Radio City building on Shaw Avenue in North Fresno. The transmitter site is in Orange Cove, California, on East American Avenue at Cove Road. While AM 580 is a Regional broadcast frequency, the station is powered at 50,000 watts, the highest power for an AM station permitted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). To protect other stations on AM 580, KMJ uses a four-tower array directional antenna. The signal covers most of Central California and reaches into the Bay Area, Sacramento and Bakersfield.
