KBF Premier League
The KBF Premier League, also known as the KBF National Basketball Classic League, is the premier basketball league for clubs in Kenya. The league currently consist out of twelve teams. The most successful team in the history of the league is KPA with nine national championships. The champions of the KBF Premier League are eligible to play in the qualifying rounds of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The league was established in 1987 and has been won by seven different clubs since then. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Inc., Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its 2021 BAL season, inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. Kenya Ports Authority, commonly known as KPA, is a basketball club based in Mombasa, Kenya. Owned by the Kenya Ports Authority corporation, the team has competed in the KBF Premier League since first qualifying in 2008. The team made their debut in international competitions during the 2002 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup, losing all six games. In 2019, KPA made their debut in the Road to BAL competitions. Ulinzi Warriors
The Ulinzi Warriors are a basketball club based in Moi Air Base, Kenya. The club is affiliated with the Kenya Defence Forces and is often nicknamed ''Soldiers''. The Warriors are eight-time national champions of Kenya, trailing only KPA for holding the record of most championships. The Warriors are a regular member of the KBF Premier League, however, the team was folded in 2007 but returned in 2012. Nairobi City Thunder
The Nairobi City Thunder are a Kenyan professional basketball team based in the Shauri Moyo neighborhood of Nairobi. They play in the KBF Premier League, the top flight division of men's basketball in the country. Home games of the Thunder are played at the Nyayo Gymnasium. The Thunder won their first national title in 2024. History The Thunder had been playing in the KBF Premier League for many years, and reached the finals of the league for the first time in 1999. Their second finals appearance would be 30 years later, in 2019. Kenya Commercial Bank Sports Club, commonly known as KCB, and nicknamed Sidwedwe, is a Kenyan multi-sport club based in Nairobi currently playing in the Kenyan Premier League. History Owned by the Kenya Commercial Bank, the club's football team played for several years in the Kenyan Premier League, but were relegated at the end of the 2015 season after finishing in 15th place.
