Operated by CU since 1998, the station broadcasts from studios in the basement of the University Memorial Center on the CU campus. History As a commercial station The Brocade Broadcasting Company (later changed to Brokade Broadcasting), owned by Enid C. Pepperd and Dona B. West, obtained a construction permit from the FCC for a new daytime-only radio station in Boulder on November 6, 1972, nearly four years after filing for the station in February 1969. Jon Steele is an American expat author living in Europe. Biography Jon Steele was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1950. His father, a flight engineer in the United States Air Force, was frequently transferred to military bases around the western United States and Steele lived in five states by the time he was ten years old. In Montana, he graduated from Great Falls Central Catholic High School in 1968. He attended College of Great Falls for one year before dropping out. He moved to New York and worked as a janitor, waiter, liquor store clerk and postman. While in New York, Steele became an avid listener of WNEW-FM's Alison Steele (no relation), Scott Muni and Jonathan Schwartz. Inspired by the Album Oriented Rock format at its creative peak, Steele quit the Post Office in 1972 after obtaining his FCC 3rd Class Radio Operator's License. Bob Greenlee
Bob Greenlee (born July 6, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska) is the executive director of the Greenlee Family Foundation. Greenlee was educated at Iowa State University where he received his B.A. in 1963 and M.A. in 1968. Decades later, in 1997, Iowa State initiated the Greenlee School of Journalism and Mass Communication in response to a large donation. After a career in advertising, Bob, with wife Diane, moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1975 and bought radio station KADE. In 1978, the Greenlees launched and developed the very successful KBCO, an FM station programming adult album alternative (AAA) format, which they sold in 1988 for $27M to Noble Broadcasting, now part of the iHeartRadio conglomerate.
