Knattspyrnufélag Akureyrar is the handball section of Icelandic sports club KA from Akureyri. History KA currently plays in Úrvalsdeild karla. KA had a merged handball team with their rival team Þór Akureyri, from 2006 to 2017, the team was called Akureyri Handboltafélag. Roberto Julián Duranona
Roberto Julián Duranona (born 8 December 1965) is a Cuban-Icelandic former handball player. He played left back. Duranona participated with the Cuba men's national handball team on the World Men's Handball Championship in 1986, where his team finished 15th out of 16, but with 50 goals he finished second on the top goalscorers list behind Jae-Won Kang of Korea. Four years later in 1990, Cuba finished 14th out of 16, but Duranona became the top scorer of the tournament with 55 goals, tied with Aleksandr Tuchkin of the Soviet Union. He gained all together 270 caps in the Cuban national team. In 1994 Duranona went to Argentina to complete his degree in physical education. In 1995 he moved to play for KA Akureyri in Iceland, where he also got the citizenship, and played 61 times for the Iceland men's national handball team, scoring 202 goals. Viking Handball Klubb (founded 1986) is a Norwegian handball team from Stavanger with 1 series gold and 4 NM gold. The team has blue jerseys and blue shorts, and is trained by Christian Magnus Mikalsen Johannesen. The team plays their home matches in Hetlandshallen. History The same year the club was founded, a concrete sporting plan was set up, to move up from the 3rd division to the 1st division (the top division of the time) within 5 years. The team moved up to the 2nd division 1986/1987 season, and were on the rise the following year, but it was missed when they lost the qualification against Kristiansand with 1 goal. After winning the 2nd division season 1988/1989, it was clear for the top series. The Men's EHF Champions League is the most important club handball competition for men's teams in Europe and involves the leading teams from the top European nations. The competition is organised every year by EHF. The official name for the men's competition is the EHF Champions League Men.
