KAAF University College is an engineering, business administration, law and nursing college in Budumburam, Gomoa East District, Ghana. Background KAAF University College is the first private university in Ghana accredited by the National Accreditation Board to run degree programmes in: Civil Engineering Construction Technology and Geomatic (Geodetic) Engineering and BSc. Mechanical Engineering. It was founded by Michael Aidoo. At its 20th meeting held on 13 September 2007, the Accreditation Committee of the National Accreditation Board decided to grant three years' authorization to the KAAF University College, Gomoa with effect from September 1, 2007, to commence and, or continue its preparation for accreditation of the institution. Before the arrival of European settlers, who introduced a formal education system addressed to the elites, education in Ghana was mainly informal and based on apprenticeship. Economic activities in pre-colonial Ghana were based on farm produce shared within households and members of each household specialized in providing necessities such as cooking utilities, shelter, clothing, and furniture, and trade with other households was therefore practiced on a very small scale. As such there was no need for employment outside the household that would have otherwise called for disciplines, values, and skills through a formal education system. The University for Development Studies, Tamale, Ghana, Tamale was established in 1992 by the government of Ghana with a view to accelerating the development of the then 3 Northern Regions of Ghana (the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions). The late President Jerry Rawlings, Jerry John Rawlings played a crucial role in its founding as he used his prize money from World Food Prize of $50,000 as seed money for its founding. The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is a public co-educational university spread over four campuses (Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Takoradi) and made up of six schools, ten research centers located at Greenhill in Accra, Ghana. The location of GIMPA, Greenhill, was named by Nicholas T. Clerk (1930 – 2012) who served as the Rector of the Institute from 1977 to 1982. The name, "Greenhill", is a reference to the lush greenery and hilly topography of the main campus, as well as its location in Legon which was historically on the periphery of the Ghanaian capital, Accra.
