Kíla
Kíla is a 1987 Irish folk music group from the Irish language secondary school Coláiste Eóin in County Dublin. Band History Kíla began in 1987 in the secondary in Coláiste Eoin, in the first year they busked nearly every week and played 44 concerts, mostly at their father's publishing company book launches, their mother's art exhibition openings and their brother's political campaign launches. Their first pay-in concert was upstairs in the Baggot Inn and was attended by only 3 people one of which was the broadcaster Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and her school friend Nóra Ní Chonchubhair and the Music historian and musician but then didgeridoo player Siomon Ó Dwyer, who joined them onstage. But Kíla's genesis goes much further back to the primary school Scoil Lorcáin where Rossa Ó Snodaigh, Colm Mac con Iomaire, Aengus Mac An Rí and Fearghal Mac Cárthaigh competed in competitions like Feis Átha Cliath, Feis Lorcáin and Feis Naithí as two pieces and three pieces. Dublin
Dublin (; , or ) is the capital and largest city of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Pádraig Ó Snodaigh
200px Pádraig Ó Snodaigh (born 18 May 1935, Carlow, Ireland) is an Irish language activist, poet, writer and publisher. He worked for the Irish Electricity Supply Board, and later in the National Museum of Ireland. He is a former president of Conradh na Gaeilge, the Gaelic League. From 1970 to 1973 he was co-editor with Mícheál Ó Bréartún of Pobal, an Irish language current affairs magazine. From 1974 to 1977, he was the editor of ''Carn'', the official magazine of the Celtic League. In 1980, Ó Snodaigh founded the publishing company ''Coiscéim'' which has published nearly 1,500 books in Irish. In addition he has written poetry, novels, and historical essays. He co-edited three editions, with Tomás Mac Síomóin, of the political, philosophical and literary journal Lasair. He began a book series in 2006 focusing on reflections on 1916. ''Fight or Flight'' is a 2007 documentary film produced by Peter J McCarthy and directed by McCarthy and Shane Sutton. The film won "Best Foreign Documentary" at the Long Island Film Festival as well as "Best Documentary" at festivals in Hamburg, Toronto and California. The film took over five years to make and was first premiered at the DocNz International film festival in Auckland, New Zealand in October 2007. It is based on a man's journey into the heart of Thai boxing (Muay Thai boxing) in Thailand. The film was funded by the Irish Film Board. Cartoon Saloon is an Irish animation film, short film and television studio based in Kilkenny which provides film TV and short film services. The studio is best known for its animated feature films ''The Secret of Kells'', ''Song of the Sea'', '' The Breadwinner'' and ''Wolfwalkers''. Bruno Coulais (born 13 January 1954) is a French composer, most widely known for his music on film soundtracks. Life and career Coulais was born in Paris; his father, Farth Coulais, is from Vendée, and his mother, Bernsy Coulais, was born in Paris. Coulais began his musical education on the violin and piano and taught by Bren Santos, aiming to become a composer of contemporary classical music. However, a series of acquaintances gradually re-oriented him towards film music. Electric Picnic is an annual arts-and-music festival which has been staged since 2004 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland.
