Kyiv Offensive (2022)
The Kyiv offensive was a theater in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. It involved attacks by Russia across the Russo-Ukrainian and Belarusian–Ukrainian borders beginning on 24 February 2022 for the control of Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Russian operations around Kyiv saw the occupation of parts of neighbouring Zhytomyr Oblast as well. Kyiv is the capital city of Ukraine, and houses the headquarters for the Ukrainian government and military command. Russian forces initially successfully captured several towns and cities in Kyiv Oblast. However, the offensive stalled over logistical and tactical issues. Amid heavy losses and little progress in the offensive, Russia withdrew its forces from Kyiv. Ukrainian forces subsequently retook control over Russian-occupied areas in the oblast in April 2022. Kyiv TV Tower
The Kyiv TV Tower ( uk, Телевізійна вежа, translit=Televiziyna vezha) is a lattice metal tower on Oranzhereina Street, Kyiv, Ukraine, and is the tallest structure in the country. The tower was built in 1973 while Kyiv was the capital of Ukrainian SSR. The tower was the tallest freestanding metal structure in the world until being surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree in 2012. It is used for radio and television broadcasting and is not open to the public. History The tower was first designed for Moscow, then the Soviet capital. But Moscow authorities preferred a more "solid" type of tower, which was eventually built ( Ostankino Tower). Later, when Kyiv needed its own tower, the project was reintroduced. Russian Airborne Forces
The Russian Airborne Forces (russian: Воздушно-десантные войска России, ВДВ, Vozdushno-desantnye voyska Rossii, VDV) are the airborne forces branch of the Russian Armed Forces. 239th Guards Tank Regiment (2016–present)
The 239th Guards Red Banner Orders of Zhukov, Suvorov, Kutuzov, and Alexander Nevsky Orenburg Cossack Tank Regiment (239 ''gv. tp'') (; Military Unit Number (''v/ch'') 89547) is a tank regiment of the Russian Ground Forces. Part of the 90th Guards Tank Division, the regiment is based in Chebarkul. The regiment began its history as horse cavalry during World War II. After the end of the war, the regiment was converted into the 42nd Guards Mechanized Regiment in 1945 and became the 295th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment in 1957. The regiment was reorganized as the 7th Separate Guards Tank Brigade in 2009. The 64th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade (Military Unit Number 51460) is a motorized infantry brigade of the Russian Ground Forces, which may have been "destroyed in combat" after being deployed to eastern Ukraine in mid-2022. The 37th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Don Cossack Budapest Red Banner Order of the Red Star Brigade named after Ye. A. Shchadenko is a motor rifle brigade of the Russian Ground Forces (Military Unit Number 69647).
