Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin was established in September 1974College Website http://www.kwcoeilorin.edu.ng by the Kwara State Government. The College is located in the ancient city of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. History The College started as School of Education and was administered by the then Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara State Polytechnic). The College was subsequently changed to an Advanced Teachers' College. By 1976, the College was completely detached from Kwara College of Technology and formally named Kwara State College of Education to be sited in Oro. The College moved to a temporary site in Ilorin and was affiliated to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, so vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Kwara State ( yo, Ìpínlẹ̀ Kwárà), is a state in Western Nigeria, bordered to the east by Kogi State, to the north by Niger state, and to the south by Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, while its western border makes up part of the international border with Benin Republic. Kwara State Polytechnic is a Nigerian tertiary institution that was established in 1973 by the then Military Governor of Kwara State Col. Alhaji Adamu Atta (October 18, 1927 – May 1, 2014) was the first civilian governor of the Nigerian Kwara State during the Second Nigerian Republic, Second Republic, representing the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Background Adamu Atta belonged to Indigenous peoples of Africa, Indigenous peoples of Ebira land, in the present Kogi State. Born in Okene in 1927, he was the son of warrant chief Ibrahima Atta, whom the British granted wide powers under the Native Authority system, which undermined the traditional process for selection of a leader in the community.
